Hello, I’m Marcelo Sereno.

I’m new at the community, and also at Captivate.

After finishing a thesis about gamification applied in banking training (you can find my thesis HERE), I started looking for ways to develop my own piece of training. Despite Captivate (which I am figuring out how to use properly), I found this community very useful. It is supportive and inclusive.

I have already found some useful resources and tips here. I hope I will also be posting videos and tutorials to help people like me soon.

If you need help on gamification, or how to use it to engage trainees, please, feel free to keep in touch.

I’ll be happy to help. Sharing is my passion.

Marcelo Sereno.

Gamification and games are not the same, Ishan.  This user is well aware of that as I wrote in a commend to a blog about gamification which was only talking about games. I have taken a MOOC  on gamification, which was very interesting and I see Captivate Prime as an excellent example of integration of Gamification.

Thank you, Marcelo!

Would you be willing to direct me to some literature on the gamification process? I have read a few things but want to expand my knowledge base so I can apply it to my own training.

Thanks!

Sure, Trevor!

I have some in my (virtual) library.

I can send you what you want. Just send me a message.

I don’t know whether you can do it by here. If not, you can just email me.

I’m happy to help.

P.S.: Is that you? > https://www.linkedin.com/in/trevor-scarberry/

If so, we can have a chat there.

Thanks for that kind offer, looking forward to what you post in this community.

I have seen your comment on another blog, which had ‘gamification’ in the topic title, but was really only talking about gaming.  In my projects I often try to embed gamification elements, but don’t forget that the use of a good LMS helps also a lot to introduce gamification elements. A typical example is Captivate Prime which has leaderboards, badges already built in.

Oh, really, Lieve?

I’m new to Captivate.

So, I need to try Captivate Prime. Should better meet my expectations.

I’m looking for a good tool to develop innovative gamified learning contents.

Basically, what I want is to move from gamification theory to practice.

Thanks for your help.

To develop gamified learning contents you can use Captivate, but I would recommend to look also to Animate CC. I really hope that the ‘collaboration’ between Animate and Captivate will be improved, as was the case in the past between Flash builder and Captivate.

I mentioned Captivate Prime, which is a Learning Management System for its way of handling ‘gamification’ elements like badges, leading boards… Not for developing games. Captivate is an eLearning authoring tool which can develop simple games, or with the help of JS more complicated ones. Courses created with such a tool are in most situations stored on a Learning Management system to manage the user accounts, their progress, gradebook and also to be able to see the position of the learner within the group of learners. For many gamification elements that is required: you cannot have badges, leading boards without taking into account the group.

I hope this clarifies better the position of Captivate vs Captivate Prime.

Here is a link to a blog with one of the very simple games I created, you can check my blog for more:

Thank you again for your help, Lieve. Now I got the difference.

I’ll try Captivate Prime, and also Animate CC.

They are just tools, gamification is very flexible.

However, I want to learn the options I have.

I agree with you; you must take the group into consideration.

Gamification planning must consider learners’ needs, also meeting the company’s ones.

I played your game. Soon I’ll develop my pieces of training.
