Software simulation feature not working

I’m attempting to create a software simulation where a learner clicks on the home page to select a menu, then when selecting an option it takes them to another page.

When I review it does not capture the clicking portion (mouse icon) and takes me directly to the page selected from the previous menu (video camera icon).

I used to use this feature so it appears a configuration or setting issue but cannot figure it out.

Any tips?

Thanks

Make sure you are recording the software simulation on your primary monitor. I have found that when you attempt to record software simulation on a secondary monitor it will not capture all the clicks and typing text actions.

Paul

Thank you, this was the best answer thus far. You far exceed the so called Adobe experts on the blog, cheers.

Software simulations work great, I am just busy with creating several for testing Captivate skills.

I suspect you limited the capture to the mode ‘Demo’. I never use that mode anymore, since Video Demo recording results in a much better result, allows non-destructive editing, and leads directly to MP4 output which is what you expect of a demo: passive video.

If you want a training, you need to record in Training and/or Assessment mode.  There is a slight difference (see Recording, Modes under Preferences to see the different setup). In both cases Captivate will insert either a click box or a Text Entry Box on each slide. Clicks or Text Entry can be scored and used to show the acquired skills to the learner or to transfer them to a Learning Management System.

Preparation is important for any Recording, you can have a look at:
