Am I able to replace an old theme with an updated version? If so, how?

It looks like a cool question.

I don’t have a ton of experience changing a theme in Captivate just yet, but I have to agree with everyone else saying to check everything over after you change to the theme to make sure it all looks and works like it should.

All software can have its little quirks here or there, so you don’t know what is off unless  you look it over.

I always point to Themes as one of the main topics for each starting Captivate user. Starting each project with a custom theme is a good practice which can you save a lot of hours. Too bad, but that message is mostly ignored.

Of course you can, Just choose a theme, modify it and save it for your projects.

Be careful: it is not a good idea just to edit an existing  theme without saving it as a custom theme. Theme is one of the less known features of Captivate and it can save so much time when well designed. If you need to Clean Preferences for troubleshooting, all your edited themes in the default Layouts folder will disappear. If you saved it (using the Theme menu, it is impossible with the Themes button) as a custom theme you can save it in another folder. Since I create a theme at the start of each new project, I will always save that theme in the project folder, not in the Layouts folder. That is just one tip. I have tons more of them in the many blogs I wrote about Themes. You find the links in this blog:

…and many themes were not designed particularly well. You may have object styles that don’t match the background and that sort of thing. I would personally recommend that you customize the existing theme to meet your needs. Change the formatting of each object in your course. Once you are satisfied with that update object style, Click the tiny menu next to the Object Style and Save Changes to Object Style or possibly Save as New Object Style if necessary. This is how I prefer to work when a theme is leaving something lacking for me.

Sure… use the big button Themes, browse to find the updated theme if it is not appearing amongst the thumbnails and apply that theme. Be careful to check everything. If the project had overridden object styles, they may not update.
