Captivate 2019 STILL the “Latest” Version?

I’m concerned that captivate is getting left behind by Adobe – we haven’t had a new version since 2019 – and it’s 2022.  Does anyone know if this product will continue to be updated and enhanced, or are we stuck with this version forever?

Does Adobe have any target release date for Project Charm?
Also, if I have a license for Captivate 2019, and wants to upgrade to Project Charm, is it going to be discounted because it is just an update? Or do I need to buy it as if it is a separate application?
Thank you!

Usually I don’t answer this type of questions, since it is something for staff members. However you may have missed the announcement that from 15/2/2022 on, only subscription licenses will be possible for Captivate. Have a look at this announcement:

Dont forget, originally software names had a number to indicate it’s release.

Like windows 95 – it was what it was out of the box. No updates as no modern internet to distribute them. Windows 2000 was better as it had a higher number and some internet!

These days the software name and number are more like a brand (Windows 11), with the software having versions to indicate difference rather than a software name. Thats one benefit of being online, you get new products all the time!

I think they should call the next release Captivate 2030…

I know this is a poor example but Microsoft Office 2003 stayed that name till 2007 and then Office 2007 was the same till 2010, and then Microsoft Office 2010 kept its name till 2016. The “names” don’t even represent the version numbers as even microsoft’s products received “updates” throughout those time frames. Captivate is on version 11 but… its just a number. Not representative of anything impactful.

Yeah absolutely, I think you explained it better than me! Names mean nothing!

Charm does sound charming though… haha!

You may have missed this:

  • Under the common name CP2019 you have 3 main versions: 11.0, 11.5 and the recently released 11.8. The features added when 11.5 was released could have earned a real new version number.
  • You missed the sneak peek at the September conference about the future release of version 12.0… Look for the code name Charm!
