I am using Captivate 2019, v. 11.5.5. I have also just updated my Media Encoder to the latest version.
My issue is that Captivate will not publish my imported .mp4 videos when publishing the project to a Video. I can play my .mp4 videos outside of Captivate using VLC and Windows Media Player, yet when I insert one as an event video, and after publishing as a Video, my inserted video will begin to play then abort.
I have tried importing it straight into my Library with no luck. I have also tried running the .mp4 video through the Adobe Media Encoder and then importing into my project- again with no luck.
I’ve been using this for 5 years and while I’ve had plenty of other odd issues, this one is really a deal breaker. If it helps, this is also after I have lost the ability to create new video demos too. Very frustrating!
If it helps, I have also un and then reinstalled Captivate. No change to the problems.
Any ideas?
I created a series of slides in Captivate 2019.
The intro screen has an MP4 video embedded on it 13.4MB if that is relevant).
When I preview it – the embedded video plays, regardless of how I preview.
When I publish it to HTML5 – the embedded video plays.
When I publish it to MP4, the video is replaced with the Adobe spinning “loading” icon. Note that I even tried uploading it to YouTube in case that fixed the problem – no dice, still the spinny loady thing instead of my video.
Any thoughts / suggestions?
There may be a conflict between the parameters for the embedded video and the video settings. However I still would prefer to use a video application or Video Demo in this situation. Captivate is not good at publishing to passive video when you have inserted videos.
I, too have short video intros and outros for my Captivate project which I want to export as an MP4. I am running Captivate 11.8.0.586 on a PC. This pretty much is a deal breaker for me. While I appreciate the fact that I could export this walkthrough into another product, adobe or otherwise to append the intro and outro, I shouldn’t have to do this. If you can export as an MP4, the program should be able to export everything in the project in the project as an MP4.
I’m back to Captivate after a 7 year absence on learning content creation I seemed to remember some issues I had like this in the past but I don’t remember the fix. What I have noticed is that when import the video into the slide, that Captivate recreates a bookmark and overlay which I do not remember seeing in prior versions. Could this be part of the issue? If so is there any way to get rid of the bookmark and/or overlay?
Maybe I already mentioned it, but why you want to get rid of any interactivity by publishing to MP4 is a mystery to me since Captivate is meant to create eLearning.
For your last question: since quite a while Captivate allows to create interactive video, which is sort of a half-way solution between passive video and real interactive course. For that reason each video inserted as slide video gets automatically the Bookmarking and the Overlay line in the Layers panel, but it is not compulsory to use them. Have a look at this blog post if you want to learn more – example link, have more posts about interactive video. Beware: they need to be published to HTML5, you cannot put them on YT or Vimeo, since they are interactive.

I tested this out and it does work for either types of video (Event or Slide) but for Event Video you need to ensure the duration of the slide is equal to the length of the video. This doesn’t happen automatically for Event Video. My advice would be to use Slide Video, in this situation as it pushes out the duration of the slide to match the video by default.
Peter,
Based on the fact that you updated Media Encoder to the latest version, it sounds like you have Creative Cloud. If you ultimately want to publish to video I would recommend you use Premiere Pro. Edit your videos and any title and content slides in that.
