Inserting external animations in a project

In this article, you will learn how to insert external animations in your Adobe
Captivate project. These animations are called external, because they are created
outside of Captivate in applications such as Adobe Animate CC or Adobe Photoshop
CC.

Captivate lets you import three types of  animations:
-Animated GIF files
-Flash-based animations (with a .swf file extension)
-HTML5 animations

Since Adobe has announced the end of the Flash Player by 2020, this article only covers inserting GIF animations and HTML5 animations. Therefore, the following two exercises are for demonstration purposes only.

You will need to create a new slide in any existing .cptx project to experiment with inserting external animations.

1. Make sure you are on slide 1 of your .cptx project.
2. Use the Slides icon of the toolbar to insert a new Blank Slide as the second
slide of the project
You now have a blank slide in your project to experiment with.

Inserting animated GIF files into a project:

Next, you will import an animated GIF file on the blank slide you just created above. You will then test your project to see the animation at work. Use the following steps to perform this :
1. Make sure you are on slide 2 of your .cptx project.
2. Use the Media | Animation icon on the Toolbar to insert a new animation
on the current slide.

In the dialog that opens, you have to choose which animation file you want to import.
By default, this dialog opens on the Captivate Gallery folder, which can be found at
the following locations:

Windows: C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Captivate 2019
x64Gallery

macOS: /Applications/Adobe Captivate 2019/Gallery

The Gallery folder is further divided into several subfolders, with assets that you can
use in your Captivate projects. However, in this exercise, you won’t use the Gallery.

Instead, you will use a custom .gif file.
3. Browse to your desired .gif file.
4. Import the selected file into the project.

As usual, Captivate inserts the object right in the middle of the current slide, which is
fine for this exercise. You will now preview the project to test your animation.

5. Use the Preview | Next 5 slides icon of the toolbar to open the Preview
pane and test your sequence.
6. When the image appears in the Preview pane, confirm that the animation
plays as expected.
7. Close the Preview pane when done.

Inserting an animated GIF file in Captivate is easy and straightforward. IF you
don’t actually need this animation in your file, you can now delete it.

8. Right-click the animation you just imported.
9. Choose Delete in the context menu that opens.
10. Confirm the deletion of the object.

Sorry to pop in, but there are some inaccurate statements in your article.

If you are on a non-responsive project and want HTML output, the only valid Preview method is F11, Preview HTML in Browser. You mention ‘Preview next 5 slides’ which will use a temporary SWF, not a HTML output. Animated GIFs could play nicely for SWF output, and fail completely for HTML output.  It is also very important to test in different browsers, because the behavior can be different.
