Recording yourself using captivate
Hi,
I’m looking to post a video i think people might find interesting.
How is everyone recording themselves using captivate? As in, I want to make a video of me building something in captivate. Is there an incognito type mode so you can run two instances of captivate at once? One to use and one to record? Or should i be recording in another app?
I don’t want to look a fool with a poor quality first vid! lol!
Thanks in advance!
You can run two instances of Captivate.
- Click the Captivate shortcut in your desktop or start menu.
- When a Captivate window opens. Repeat step 1.
- You now have two instances of Captivate. You can use one to record, and the other to open the file you need to capture.
There are a lot of screen recording options out there, and there is the video demo option as indicated here.
My suggestion is if you are comfortable with one already, maybe try that first. If you haven’t tried any before, you could always try a few and see what works for you. If it is Camtasia and you can produce what you are looking for, great. If that is not for you, and you try video demo and that produces what you are looking for, great.
Be comfortable with the software you are using, or learn what you want to use and it will be a better experience. Everyone has an opinion and everyone’s opinion is what works for them.
Hope that helps some.
I would use Video Demo as I have done for all the videos in the Adobe conferences. You open a second instance of Captivate.
You can even use software simulation, because it makes editing bit less work-heavy due to its slides- approach, but the quality will be lower.
Or you can convert the Video Demo to an interactive video as I did with:
Sure, find it always painful when external applications are recommended whereas Captivate has everything on board to give a solution. Although Camtasia is a wonderful screen recording application, it still only produces only passive video…
Just one more tip: go into Preferences, Recording and set Video Demo to 32-bit. That results in better quality for Video Demo and for FMR slides in software sims. BTW: the Video Demo editor is non-destructive.
