Adobe Captivate is an eLearning authoring and course design tool (or LCMS). It supports mobile HTML5 content and SCORM for an eLearning platform. In the past, Captivate’s users  were commonly mid-size companies. However, these days, it is become a valuable tool for schools and for self-employed tutors, who are looking to create courses that have  functionality and interactive  tools to excel the learning experience of their users.

 My story

As an self-employed tutor, the idea of creating an interactive course was completely impossible a number of years ago.  My search for a more interactive tools brought me to several elearning tools such as; isprings and 360 articulate. My experience was ispring was rather disappointing. First of all,  the cost was extremely off putting, you needed to buy ispring suite which is priced at €690.00, then if you need characters, you need to pay another  €347.00 and in the end you needed to purchase something called ispring space at €690.00, which I still don’t fully understand the usage of this piece of software. I was also, put off by the fact that ispring was just a feature of PowerPoint.  Although,  PowerPoint is a great tool for presentations, it was very difficult to create courses with the ispring addon. So, the whole experience was completely disappointing.

My next attempt was with 360 articulate. I did not like the interface and I found this software hard to manage. So, I continued to search for a software tool for e-learning that would bring both functionality and interactive tools to my courses. A friend had suggested Adobe Captivate.

My first impressions

Adobe Captivate’s interface is really interesting. It seems to be similar to a photoshop layout with the panels at  the side. I have been a fan of photoshop for many years and I love that you can easily grab any tool you need within seconds. The library bins are so convenience. You can easily search for an image you need and instantly create your course pages. I am equally impressed by the assets available. Although, sometimes, the asset sections does not work well. I had to wait for hours before the characters,  themes and project sections appeared. When it did appear, I found an array of useful tools that just enhanced my courses. Also, there is no need to pay all the separate prices for each feature.  Everything you need is under one simple price of $33.99 a month

The filmstrip section, really brings your project to life. You are available to see each slide and can move them around , edit them, you can also add images and sound instantly.  This feature saves you a lot of time.

In summary, so far Adobe Captivate has exceeded my expectations.  I am very proud to be an Adobe Captivate user. My next step is to develop my courses.  As, I continue to explore all the features in Adobe Captivate, I will share all my experiences with you. At the moment, Adobe Captivate stands as a king above all Kings within the eLearning industry.
