Issues with software demonstration and external monitors attached to my laptop
I’m trying to create a software demonstration in Captivate 2019 11.5.5.553. I cannot get past the initial attempt because of the error message I have attached.
Indeed, my displays don’t match–I’m working from a Windows laptop with two additional screens. I looked at the Windows display settings, and they are appropriately set for the different monitor sizes. I’m not an advanced Windows tech, so I’m profoundly uncomfortable with tinkering with the Windows settings without knowing how to return them when I am finished with the project.
Does a different workaround exist for this issue? I tried unplugging the external monitors, but then couldn’t figure out how to capture my software program and run Captivate simultaneously.
As always, I appreciate the collective wisdom of this community! 🙂
First tip, maybe bit off topic: do use Video Demo if you want to capture a ‘demonstration’, do not use the Software simulation in Demo mode. Not only will the result have higher quality, and it natively will export only to MP4 while software sims still are partially based on SWF technology, but you’ll get a dedicated video editor.
You always need to capture the application on the primary monitor. I don’t know what you mean by running Captivate along with the captured application? I don’t have the luxury of multiple monitors, even capture Captivate courses with Captivate on a single monitor. It is true that you need to have 1px/px on your screen which can be done with the recommended Windows change, but personally I prefer to lower the resolution of my screen to a size which allows me to display at 100%. On this laptop it means I switch back to HD (1920×1080) instead of its recommended resolution which is 3840×2160, and set Display resolution to 100% instead of 225% which is my normal setting.
