Publishing Captivate Projects from PowerPoint (no LMS)
Our company does not have a LMS today. How can I publish captivate projects from PowerPoint in a way that users across my company are able to view the training, click to advance slides, and access the final slide with a link to a quiz?
I’ve tried publishing using HTML and executable formats to no avail. I see the video option but would prefer a format that does force learners to advance slides at their own pace as opposed to preset times / duration of scripts.
Hi, you can publish as HTML5, uncheck the option “zip files”, your content will be inside a folder that we willl name “my_project” or any name you choose, if you have access to a hosting service and a domain that we will name “www.mydomain.com”, you must access to your files inside the hosting, maybe with “Filezilla” client, search for “public_html” folder, open it, do not touch the files inside just load the folder “my_project”, now you can access to your course via web browser, the URL will be something like “http://mydomain.com/my_project”
All the users now can view the course, even you can set a password to access before publish your project. Without an LMS you will not have a record of users or visitors, but you meet the goal of reviewing the course.

Personally, it sounds like you don’t need Cp for this course. If the content is just click and read (having authored it in PPT) have you considered using a slide hosting platform like Powtoon? You can export PPT slides via an extension. You don’t say how you’ve authored the quiz so I can’t comment on that.
Hope this helps

First a bit off topic tip: do not use PPT import if you really want to create eLearning. Since each PPT slide is converted to a ‘movie’ slide, you don’t have any control over individual objects which makes it almost impossible to create engaging interactivities. It is a better idea to unzip the PPT file, recover as much assets as you can and import those in the Project Library of a new Captivate project. You can use the PPT as sort of a story board to create the project from scratch and will have all the control you want to add interactions.
Since you do not want to result in passive video (mp4) which may even lead to issues, you need to publish to HTML5. Publishing to exe is outdated since the demise of SWF technology. To view the published course (which will be a folder with multiple layers) you need to upload to a webserver if you don’t have access to a LMS. You can install a webserver on a system or use one of the services like AWS to upload. If you need reporting, the SCORM Cloud service offer some free uploads with some limitations. If you are serious about eLearning, a LMS is a requirement. The basic version of Moodle is free but has of course its limits as well.
As for interactions, please have a look at the Quick Start Projects you’ll find in the Assets library. They can be customized, replacing the placeholder content with your content. As a basic intro to interactivity, you may also have a look at this summary of a webinar I once offered:
