Hi Everyone.
I am looking for advice on the following: Positioning and size of smartshapes as boxes for Success Failure captions.
I am creating a series of Software Training courses for a course I am working on.
1) I have been able to set the smartshapes default to the colour and font I want in object style manager…but not the size
2)I have been able to create my own Test Failure smartshape and apply it to override / replace the failure caption
3) I have positioned it and used the dropdown in properties – options – Position to “apply to all shapes of this style” and I have tried the “this type” option but neither seem to apply the position to the other shapes on the slides.
However, whichever method I chose, the failure caption will become the right colour, font and font size…but will not keep the size or position on the slide…so I have to do this manually.
Am I trying to achieve something which is not possible, or has anyone successfully achieved this?
Thanks so much

Hi Thanks for your reply. Yes I have applied all the suggestions. It works OK just wanted to find out if it was possible to use the settings across more than one project, but I agree I can get some of the way there with the Object Style settings.
No I don’t use Demo – Only training with hints and ungraded and assessment with no hints (Unless necessary) and graded.
We have been asked to keep the instructions in one place as we have a number of learners who struggle with information moving around the slide. They are more comfortable with the information being presented in this way, but I agree it can be difficult to associate the hint / command with the action you want them to do.
I guess it will be trail and feedback and we may indeed go back to how it was intended. Cant please all of the people all of the time….but I try.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Position nor size are never part of the Object Style. I understand that you changed the default message object type from caption to shape, correct?
Software sims are set up so that all messages appear near the location of the click or other action during capture. My first idea is indeed also about using the hotdog menu in the Position part to try to apply to all objects of s style if you created a specific style for these messages which I presume is the case as well.
Although I have created a lot of software simulations about all kind of topics (there is one Assessment about Captivate posted here as well), I never felt the urge to have all the messages in the same location and with the same size. Reason: I always need to screen each message manually because the generic messages do not have enough information. This means I am a bit stupefied about your request. Do you keep the generic messages? Is this a software simulation in Demo, Assessment or Training mode? Since version 6 I have replaced the sims in Demo mode by Video Demo completely since that leads to more quality and has a great editor.
I will look into this question more in-depth when you answer the questions in this comment.
Not sure what happened to my reply to this…
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. We have been asked to have all the captions in the same place as our learners struggle to follow boxes appearing all over the slide and covering the software package in the background. A bit of a trial this time. I am sure we get feedback on it.
No I don’t use demo only training and assessment. Demo is video tutorial
Captions are detailed as it is for medical purposes, hence the need to have them not obscuring the background.
Thanks for all you suggestions – Helpful and appreciated as ever.
