Change Responsive project to normal project? or freeze size of responsive project?
(3)

Hello,

I have created a responsive project based on examples given in “Assets” and download.

In Adobe Captivate, it is always shown with default size (1024*627) and looks great, but when I preview it in a browser, size is changed depending on browsing area, and render is bad (picture overlap, some objects disappear or are partially visible…).

I know that the scaling is a basis of the responsive project, but is it possible to “fix” the size of a responsive project to a default size when it is displayed in a browser?

Or is it possible to copy all the slides to a “non-responsive” project? I tried to do it, I can copy slides, but the “paste” is greyed and not available in the new project.

Best regards

Hello Lieve,

Thanks for your answer and for your time, even if it does not seem to be good news for me.

You give so many information that it is difficult to summarize. I should have added to this post an example of the “Flat Blue” example I am using. I found this example in the “Assets” then in “Discover” (I am using Captivate 2019). I have chosen this one because it proposed many examples as presentation and as games. All examples of Flat Blue are based on a Responsive project with Fluid Boxes.

So, your conclusion seems to be that it is not possible to fix a resolution and not possible to convert the project to a non-responsive one. It corresponds also to what I investigate, I spent lot of time in options everywhere in Captivate and found no solution.

If I must redo everything from scratch, do you know an example that I can use as basis, which contains several “presentation” slides and several “games” as I found in Flat Blue example? I am not sure to have a full list of available examples in Captivate Assets.

Regards

My apologies, but I don’t download any files for multiple reasons.

I have checked out the Assets panel, but I cannot find the Flat Blue project, responsive, at all. Where did you find that project? Though I have written several posts about the Quick Start Projects, and explored them in-depth. It is probably a project which has not been developed by the Captivate team but from the ELB Library? That makes it very difficult to answer your question since it is external. It may even be created for an older version than yours. You mentioned issues which may be due to your editing or to the original project.

If you explained what exactly you want to create, maybe I could point to some posts on my blog. It would indeed mean create from scratch but will offer you full control. It is not always a good idea to start from a project created by another developer. Did you check the Advanced Interaction panel to see which actions have been set up? Do you understand those actions? Here is a link explaining the power of that panel:

Since I am a consultant, I know very well how difficult it is to screen a project developed by someone else, and try to understand as quickly as possible how it was set up. Mostly I get those jobs to debug the project and/or add complicated interactions.

Do you want me to give less information? I could have answered simple negative: No, neither of your questions is possible.

Some information is missing, which means that I have to do some ‘guessing’.

Since you point to a responsive project created from slides or a project in the Assets panel, I am pretty sure you used Fluid Boxes for this project. It is also possible to use Breakpoint views, but that older workflow (gives more control to the developer) is mostly ignored nowadays by the Captivate team and is not present in the Assets panel.

You will not like my answer if my guessing is correct. If you used only one Quick Start Project from the Assets, and didn’t mess up the fluid boxes during editing, you would not have the problems you mention. The objects should rearrange when changing the browser resolution as happens when viewing on other devices.  If you used Ready-to-go slides from several Quick Start Projects you get multiple themes and that could also lead to problems.

Do not feel insulted, but I have to correct your idea about responsive projects with fluid boxes. It is not at all the scalability which is important, but what you specify as rearrangement possibilities of the fluid boxes and within the fluid boxes. The maximum resolution is what you use for the development, which is set to 1024×627. That is rather low when viewing on a desktop with a quality screen, because the goal for a responsive project is aimed at mobile devices. If a large part of your audience will be on desktop/laptop, you need to set the start resolution to higher values. Or you could opt to have a non-responsive project, which you publish with ‘Scalable HTML’ activated. Such a project can be viewed in any resolution, will adapt to the browser, but only in landscape mode. It is my choice for all the published tutorials on my blog site.

Bad news: it is NOT possible to convert a responsive project with fluid boxes to a non-responsive project, it is not possible to fix a resolution. Sorry about that. It would be possible to copy/paste from the desktop view if you had created a responsive project with Breakpoint views. You’ll need to start from scratch, but all responsive projects in the Assets panel have a non-responsive version as well. You can also open the Project Library from the original project as external library in your new project and use your personal assets from the Library.

Maybe this older post could clarify some more:
