Hi,
I am a newbie with Captivate, so sorry if this is a dumb question.
I am trying to create a demo video and want to capture the screen of my application and at the same time a video of the devices I am processing using the application. Capturing the screen of the application is simple enough but using a webcam to capture a video of the devices I am processing is proving to be very frustrating. The video has black bands above and below the main video screen and no background can make them go away. I have looked for a cropping tool etc but to no avail. How can I get rid of those black bands please?
Thanks
Chris
Every Captivate user has once been a newbie, no need to apologize.
It explains perhaps my following questions because Captivate has two capturing workflows.
- Using the option ‘Software Simulation’ in Demo mode (has also the Training and Assessment modes which lead to real interactive courses). That one is slide based, and allows only capturing one screen at the time, no real way to capture a device screen as well. Output will be published to HTML5, which is little bit like a website. It is slide based which makes management easier.
- Using the option ‘Video Demo’ which allows you to capture both the screen activity and the webcam at the same time, and you show one of them or both at the end using the editor. Such a project has the extension ‘cpvc’ instead of ‘cptx’. That option allows only output to MP4, which passive video. It has a dedicated video editor and will in most cases lead to better quality video than the software simulation. However its management may be harder.
- You can use a passive MP4 like the one created with Video Demo in a normal cptx project to create an interactive video. Such a video has overlay (static) content slides and/or Knowledge Check slides. It will also be published to HTML5 and adds some interactivity to a passive video. Beware: not the same amount of interactivity which is possible in a full cptx-project.
Please tell which workflow you will be using.
