Can Captivate activate users’ cameras and allow them to record their responses for their own private reflection?
I want to create an e-learning course about empathy where users can record their responses and watch them back as a tool for reflection. The users watch a video of an actor playing the part of a colleague who is having issues coping with their workload. Users will get hints, tips and advice as to how best to show good active listening and empathy while maintaining professional boundaries.
Then we ask them to record their response using their webcam. The software needs to switch on their camera and offer them a record button. Once they have recorded they press stop. They will then be shown the conversation from the colleagues point of view. For each answer, they are given more tips about the dos and don’ts of the situation.
Is this possible in Captivate?
I am also concerned about ensuring their recordings stay secure and remain private for the users. They are not for the course leaders to review. The recorded videos are only for the users to watch and listen back to reflect on their responses.
Can it work?
Not possible AFAIK in Captivate. Even if it was possible it would be tricky to keep it private as well, since the Captivate published output is connected for transfer with the LMS. Personally I would be very careful, because having your webcam turned on for you by software is not something I would allow. Moreover you suppose that everyone has an active webcam? The non-situation may be rare, but I still have a desktop PC without a webcam.
Why not offer them tips how to reflect on their performance, which may include the suggestion to do a recording but there may be other ways. Video is not the only way and not always the preferred way for everyone.
