Captivate SIMs and lack of clarity of output

Hello

I am very sorry but I have very limited understanding of sizing and resolution of content and no one to talk to, so I wonder if anyone can explain.

When I capture a simulation, I set video to 32bit (not sure this affects SIMs) and set Publish quality settings to high and resize my sim to 1385 x 750… (From 1920 x 1040).

When I look at in in HTML preview it looks perfect crisp and clear….but when publish it, it looks less clear and defined, making it hard for the learner to complete the task.  Not terrible but significantly worse than the preview view.

Can someone explain why this is in simple terms…. and how I can improve my quality.

Thank you

Thanks for your kind words, not many users appreciate my help, I have to tolerate more insults than anyone else.

I hope you found this blog, about resizing software sims to embed them in another course with different resolutions?

To keep the clarity of your sim it is important to keep the width/height ratio at all times. Sorry that I didn’t answer your other questions because they were still in moderation, which is very frustrating.

The Scalable HTML worked   Thank you so much.  I was doing all of this but in the wrong order so thanks again.

However my only problem now is writing a guide for creating the courses with specific measurements and positions….if people are recording the actual SIM on different screens or cropping the application differently Will it ever be possible?

If you resize, does this automatically ruin the resolution / make it fuzzy, or is it because, in my case the size had been changed so much?

Thanks so much.

Publish it as Scalable HTML – Is this when you tick the Scalable HTML box when publishing or is there more to it than this?

The SIM needs to be inserted into another Captivate course, this is why I am resizing to the same size as the course template.  Should I make the course the same size as the original SIM?   However, my concern is that I am meant to write a guide for the sizing or all the assets in the course (Boxes, shapes and positions), but if others record a SIM on a different screen, will all the sizing be wrong?

I know the original resolution is not quite right but I am not sure quite how to record it differently.  I need to capture the whole of a full screen application on a fixed screen resolution of 1920 x 1080.  The application window is slightly smaller than the whole screen, hence the odd number.  Is it this that determines the resolution output or is there anything I can do to change this?

I am getting on really well with developing the course and the functionality with your previous help.,  I am just really struggling with the whole resolution aspect of design I need to do some kind of course.

Your resizing is not keeping the width/height ratio. The original projet also has a strange resolution.

However I would not resize the project at all, but publish it as Scalable HTML. It will adapt to the browser resolution and probably will be a lot more crisp.

BTW: the 32-bit setting influences not only Video Demo but also FMR slides. However I always replace the FMR slides by Video Demo slides because their quality is much better. That is another tip. This can be done during capture when you suspect a FMR slide will be created, you need to pause the capture and choose Video Demo under the Slides button. After that slide, continue with the normal capture process … until the next FMR slide.
