Gamification for Compliance Module

Hey there! Currently I am creating a “Compliance” module for one of my clients. I want to make it more engaging by adding gamification elements as I personally find these compliance modules quite mundane. Has anyone used gamification for a compliance module? If yes, please share some ideas on it. Looking for some real-world strategies to make it more engaging.

Gamification components could annoy students since they foster competition. In such circumstances, it’s possible that your compliance training won’t have the expected results.

Hey, You can use points, badges, and the leaderboards (PBL) concept, it will provide excellent outcomes and increase employee engagement throughout the training.

Hi Elina! I‘ve used gamification in compliance modules before and found that it can be a great way to make the content more engaging. One idea is to use a “quiz” style format, where learners answer questions related to compliance regulations, and earn points or badges for correct answers. You could also include “Easter eggs” or hidden challenges throughout the module to keep learners on their toes.  Let me know if this works for you

I have used a timed game with badges where the learners were expected to share their inputs for the possible compliance scenarios.

I have used an escape room type set up for the course – that clues need to be gathered and used to answer questions to allow you to ‘escape’ the course.

Not sure what went wrong, because I have posted a long answer and it has disappeared.

Compliance modules are boring for several reasons and I really doubt that can be changed just by adding ‘gamification’ features like badges, leaderboards etc… If the audience is not interested, the content is mostly text and the course is compulsory without explaining its necessity and without making the course as interactive as possible..

Interactivity is the keyword, you need to spice up the course. Give control as much as possible to the learner, forget boring bulleted lists in PPT style.  Use engaging narration, use scenario-based courses with branching possibilities, use video when possible or even interactive video slides, use a 3D camera and insert 360° slides with hotspots, replace MCQ questions by image based KC slides, use Drag and drop interactions. Know the audience: will badges, scores, leaderboard improve their engagement? Small games are possible to replace KC slides as well. Captivate allows a lot of creativity, use that please.

Why gamification? It will never fix a boring story board, is more of a hype just like microlearning.

What will you use in the module besides text? Can you use video, which you could convert into interactive video where you add Knowledge Check slides and overlay slides with more static content. Do you use a real quiz and can the results being transferred to a LMS? Is it possible to embed some 360° slides (with a cheap 3D camera you can easily create some 3D photos).

Can you create scenarios with question-answer branching to different parts in the module? Scoring is in itself a form of gamification. Is your audience sensitive to badges? You could even create some small games for testing (find some in my blog).  Use Drag&Drop whenever possible. Summarized: get away as far as possible from text-based, bulletted PPT style slides.
