Rapid eLearning Development
(5)

Hi all! I am developing eLearning courses for a school as a part of its ‘Teachers Onboarding’ program. Apart from videos, suggest strategies and tools for rapid elearning development, preferably not requiring more than 2 weeks. The seat-time of each course is 50 min. approx. Suggestions are welcome!

Hi, I’ve developed e-learning courses in a hurry before, and one strategy that has worked well for me is to use existing content. You can repurpose existing presentations, PDFs, or documents into e-learning content. Another helpful tool is using online course marketplaces like Udemy or Coursera to find pre-made courses that you can customize for your specific needs. Hope this helps!

I’ve developed e-learning courses quickly before, and one strategy that’s worked well for me is using collaborative tools like Google Docs or Microsoft Teams. These tools allow you to work with a team of people simultaneously, making it easier to create content quickly. Also, using microlearning techniques can help you break up the content into smaller, more manageable pieces. Good luck with your project!

Hi Violet. See if this works. One strategy for developing e-learning courses quickly is to use templates. Most of authoring tools offer a variety of pre-built templates that you can customize to fit your content. Another helpful tool is using authoring tools like Canva or Adobe Express to create visually appealing graphics and images to break up the content. Best of luck with your project!

Some questions:

  • When you talk about the duration of the course ’50 minutes’ is that the developer’s duration or the time the learner will spend on the course. Those durations are very different in an interactive course, contrary to a passive video. Interactivity will take up more or less time depending on the level of the learner. Example to illustrate: a question slide or a Drag&Drop slide in Captivate has a default duration of 3 seconds. However the time to read the text on the slide, to understand the question, to choose an answer or to complete the necessary drag actions can take up minutes. Moreover you can allow multiple attempts, which may increase the time spent on the slide.
  • Development time: what is the skillset of the developer? Which resources, assets are available or do they need to be created as well? I have solved problem situations in Captivate in a couple of hours, where a whole team was struggling since weeks with those situations without having a solution.
  • Developing a 50 minute course (development time) in 2 weeks from scratch is very optimistic. Even creating a 50 minute passive video of good quality could take more time. But in a real efficient, engaging eLearning course you need interactions.

You see why it is almost impossible to make suggestions.
