QUESTION:
How is the feature “Add More Delivery Types” useful while creating courses in ALM. What is the sole functionality of this feature? How do we setup multiple delivery types for the learner?
Use Case with detailed explanation:
Here is the complete use case explained in detail for “Add More Delivery Types” feature.
Please be informed that, “Add More Delivery Types” option is designed for the Admin and Author roles in the Adobe Learning Manager platform. This functionality is more useful when you have multiple instances in a course.
For example: Below is a course designed with 5 modules within and have added an extra delivery type for the first 2 modules as shown in the snippet:
This particular course has been setup with two instances: Default Instance and New Instance as shown in the below snippet:
When we expand the modules within these instances, we will now have a choice of selecting either of the delivery types that we have previously setup for the first 2 modules as shown below:
When you look at the following screenshot, we have selected Self Paced and Activity delivery type for New Instance and then Activity and Self Paced delivery type for Default instance for the first 2 modules (since we have a choice).
Likewise, you can setup multiple instances of your choice and define the delivery types for each module within the courses separately for all the instances created. This will help the learners to choose their desired instance based on the delivery type that they wish to take the training/ course.
Once the delivery types have been added, the Modify Delivery types option can be used to change the existing delivery types between Self-Paced Module, Virtual Classroom Module, Classroom Session Module and Activity Module.
FAQs:
1) Is this feature for equivalencies (e.g., I can take this self-paced course OR the virtual classroom to be marked as complete for the requirement)?
Ans: No. This feature is not for setting up any equivalencies.
2) If I modify delivery types while a training is active, what is the downstream impact to those in-progress or completed?
Ans: This feature/ functionality has been developed exclusively for Admins/ Authors, enabling them to choose multiple delivery types for the modules across different instances. Leaners will only be able to see the instances and register them accordingly based on their choice (provided instance switch option is enabled in the course settings page). However, once the learners have completed the module, there will be no impact.
3) If there are 3 modules in the course (classroom/elearning/quiz), what happens if I need to complete the quiz AND EITHER the classroom OR the elearning?
Ans: You can create 2 instances in the following fashion:
Instance 1: Quiz and Classroom
Instance 2: Quiz and Elearning
Make sure to enable the Instance Switch option in the course settings page so that the learners can choose any of the above instances and complete the course accordingly.
