Thanks for the patch, we’ve all been anxiously awaiting it, but why didn’t it come through the Adobe Updater. My company blocks the download of any .ZIP files. Not only that, but after finally downloading and installing the patch (from home), I had to go tweak a couple .INI files? That has to be the worst patch process I’ve ever seen.

Tim, it will come out through the auto-updater soon. There are some extra steps involved in automating it. We wanted to give you an early access pass here for folks who are very hungry for the fixes.

I get a message that says “Adobe Captivate 5 Update Installation failed” when I try running the patch. Trying to install on a winxp sp3 machine with admin rights.
I have ELS2 installed and all the previous Cp patches. Current Cp version is 5.0.0.596. Any known issues?
thanks,
Russ

Russ, please report this ASAP to wish-captivate@macromedia.com. It’s important that QA sees your problem in case others experience that. It may be just a corrupt download or something, but I’d encourage you to let them know – they can also take a look at your install logs. Different systems are all configured differently, so best bet is to start with the wish email.

Thanks Allen. I will try the wish-captivate email. I have been working with someone in web/captivate tech support. We ran some connect sessions so they could watch it happen and try a few things but no luck yet. By the way, spoke to someone in the installation/tech support area who insisted over and over that cp5 is NOT part of ELS2. Wouldn’t have believed it myself if I hadn’t called in on a recorded line. Nearly fainted but after checking with a couple resources he finally agreed that yes cp5 is indeed part of ELS2. By the way, really benefiting from several of your tutorial series especially the ones on widgets and on effective elearning. Thanks again.

I’d love to be able to apply this patch because I’m struggling with a couple of the issues identified as fixed with this patch, but I’m receiving a “Update is not applicable” error from the Adobe Application Manager whenever I attempt to run the AdobePatchInstaller.exe file. Installed version of Captivate is 5.0.0.596. Are there manual installation instructions available to pick up the fixes included in this patch?

Kevin, please send a note to wish-captivate@macromedia.com to let the team know of this error. They can help track it down and help you through installation.

hi, could someone be so kind to help me resolve my confusion by using Adobe Captivate 5? when I use this tool to record my actions under Win7 system, I found it cannot record anything with Full Motion selected. Why????

BTW, I’m not realy sure whether two systems would make this trouble? Actually, I setup Win7 via bootcamp in my macbook pro.

Chris, you should be able to do so with Full Motion without issue. I’m not aware of any Bootcamp Win7 Captivate issues. (I use Bootcamp with WinXP). It sounds like you may have a machine specific bug- please report it to wish-captivate@macromedia.com. Let them know the hardware / OS configuration and describe the behavior when you try to do FMR in as much detail as you can (does it just not start the capture, does the capture appear to happen but no FMR is generated? that sort of thing.)

Hi,Allen,Thanks for your reply! After I changed the fmr working folder to a simple named folder, e:cp , full motion recording works excellently  just like I tested it in winxp system. I think it’s all because of my incorrect folder name, actually, I chose a Chinese name folder as fmr working folder …

Chris, makes me wonder if there’s a unicode char naming limitation in resource folders for non-xp versions of Windows – I’ll send a note to the team. Thanks for letting us know.
