If your project has become corrupted and doesn’t open, then it most likely is not recoverable. But, you can try to recover the project using either of the following steps:

  • Open the project in the latest version of Adobe Captivate.
  • Open the backup file of the project. By default, the name of the backup file is the same as your project suffixed with .bak extension and is saved in the same location as the project.

Note: The backup file is created only if the Generate Project Backup option is enabled in the project preferences.

Using the backup file, you can recover the project in the state it was last saved.

You can also recover the project from the Project cache folder.

My .bak also got corrupted. Is there any way to recover it from the db folder like we used to be able to do?

You forgot to include the part where you have to change the file extension from .bak to .cptx

You just edit the file name, then Captivate will open it.

Saurav, this is a great tip. Especially the part about setting Captivate to generate project backups. I can’t tell you how many times this has saved my life.
