Does anyone out there have experience in successfully implementing an LRS; with or without an LMS? I’m really interested in how simple (or not) this would be to build and what data is made available once it’s up and running.

Have you checked out learning locker? HT2 labs run a free MOOC on how to set one up. Maybe this will help. I have not personally set one up yet but am considering it. I believe they have a free version for you to use as well as a paid enterprise version with support etc.
Here is the link to the course.

Hey Andrew, setting up is not challenging or much different from implementing an LMS. The Learning Locker is a good place to start as well. I would also recommend following Megan Torrance as she is running some cohorts on xAPI which get you involved in developing solutions. My only observation is, that at this point you are only limited by your coding abilities to really take all the benefit of tracking experiences vs tracking course completions. xAPI uses a bit of JSON and JavaScript to send statements. Check this out if you can:

Thanks Wayne, I’ll definitely check this out. I’m currently at the research stage before I dive in.

Excellent, thank you. I definitely have coding expertise that I can lean one and perhaps do some of it myself. I guess the question his whether the benefits are great enough to justify the work involved. If I get any further I’ll post an update here.
