Adobe Captivate fluid box Hyperlinks issue

Hi

I am creating a responsive project using fluid boxes in Adobe Captivate 2017.

Inside one fluid box I have a text caption. I have copied the text from the script (Word document), next I highlighted the ‘link’ word and right clicked on it, I used ‘Insert Hyperlink’ option to paste the URL. Unfortunately the link is not working both in the preview option and published to SCORM. I was creating every screen from scratch and I am unable to create any hyperlinks in my project and it is very frustrating as this supposed to be a basic option to be able to insert a link…

Word that supposed be a link has only changed the colour and it become underlined but is unclickable. I also tried to use the ‘Insert Hyperlink’ from the Character section under the Properties from the panel on the right hand site. I was trying for a long time now to work this out unsuccessfully. Any idea what to do?

Thanks,
Emilia

Hi Lieve / Emilia,

I experience the same issue. On one of the fluid boxes that I add a text with hyperlink, the hyperlink does not work. So you just install a patch to fix the issue? Which patch should I install?

Thank you.

Judith

Hi Lieve,

Thank you for the reply. I will use Help > Updates to get to 10.0.1.285.

But just want to add my recent findings, after trying left and right, the hyperlink works if the text hyperlinked is the final text in the text caption box. If there is a text following the hyperlinked text, the hyperlink won’t work. So I had to divide the texts to two text captions in the fluid box to make the hyperlink works.

Once I get the updates, I will update the post again whether the behavior is reproducible with putting all the text in one text caption.

Thank you.

Judith

Hi Lieve,

I ran the updates and the hyperlink issue is now fixed. I don’t have to divide the texts in two text captions. The hyperlinked texts still work even if they are not the final texts on the text caption.

Thank you again for your help.

Regards,

Judith

UPDATE:

After installing the patch, hyperlinks are finally working properly.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sorry, I don’t understand, is there any reason why I do not have the most recent version of the software that was bought and installed about 2 months ago? Is this patch that new or should it be installed along with the software itself? Was this mentioned in some installation guide?

Where is this patch available from?

This is a problem for me as I have this software installed by a company I work for on my work laptop (and I do not have the admin rights to install anything on it) and I am based in a completely different city… This is all so unexpected and inconvenient…

I’m just a user .trying to help you, don’t blame me. Patch was probably released just after your buy? It has been mentioned on this portal, on the forums, social media. It is not pushed automatically.
Anyway to have all functionality of Captivate you need to Run it as Administrator. Taking over a system is not much of a problem nowadays. Cannot help you with that.

I am not blaming you. I am just asking. Sorry if you felt it that way. I am frustrated having an issue with such a basic feature. Your replies made me have even more questions and trying to find answers to them. That is all.

Just to let you know that I have also tried to manually type in the text where I wanted my links and it didn’t work either in case if you or anyone else would wonder if that could help.

I have been coaching basic training with the first version of CP2017, and remember having used hyperlinks, but not in Fluid Boxes. Cannot help with the installation. I have blogged about hyperlinks because they are very powerful and few users know that their functionality is not limited to opening webpages at all.

I will organise the patch to be installed eventually, and I do hope it will help! However my point was that it is not good that there was an issue with hyperlinks before the patch for some users, in the first place. As I have found some posts about this problem, but nothing what I have learned from them was helpful in my case. I will definitely use your tip with the txt document, also thank you for the info about the patch, as I was not following the news about Adobe Captivate 2017 and it’s updates, I was only looking for info about hyperlinks etc. I will read your posts as well, thank you again for all your help. It is very much appreciated!

There were some bugs in the first release, as is often the case. Fluid Boxes is a brandnew feature, wouldn’t be amazed if it was indeed a problem with that setup because you probably don’t have that issue with a non-responsive project.

I assume you are right, and that is probably the case so the patch should help, as I was able to create a link in a non-responsive project, now. That’s a shame that this patch was released a year after the release date of the software, I would expect it to be done sooner.

I am not aware of the agenda of the team, just can tell this was exceptionally late indeed but there were a lot of hot fixes around that were distributed to customers to solve individual bugs.

No, you have to install the patch. I couldn’t test on your version, because I don’t have it anymore. Do not forget to clean the preferences as well. I typed in Captivate itself, something you didn’t try yet but I suspect the patch could fix the problem. Use Help, Updates.

Hi Lieve,

Thank you for your reply.

I have 10.0.0.192 version, isn’t that the most recent one? It was installed only 2 months ago so I hope it should be alright.

I have copied the text from Word to a new Text Document file and then I have copied it from txt into Adobe Captivate. It didn’t work. I have tried with one word and two words, same outcome. I have even created a new responsive project with fluid boxes and copied the text from txt file and the link was not working either…

You have to know that I never answer a question without double-checking. In this case I used one of mt Fluid Boxes projects, marked a word as hyperlink to go to one of my blog posts, in a new tab window. That worked perfectly. I am using version 10.0.1.285. Up till now I only sometimes have issues with a hyperlink that is extending over multiple words, but never with one word. Can you check the version number to see if we use the same?
Tip: never use Word to copy from, but save the document first to non-formatted text (txt file) or use Notepad. Word is famous for bad formatting code behind the screen (als all MS apps).
