HTML5 Animations
August 22, 2018

Hi. I use Captivate 2017 and love using animations. However, when I select HTML5 Animations, nothing appears. It’s asking me to browse for and select something.

Any ideas where I can locate similar animations to those regular ones that aren’t supported (circle, hand, arrows, etc)?

Thanks.

Question Captivate 2019: The original question for this discussion indicates that when you go to Media> HTML5 Animation, a file search window appears for you to search for an animation (or what ever. I do not know what it is looking for. I navigated to the Widget folder and it did not contextually pick up any files). Is there something that is supposed to populate? Is this feature still applicable in Cap 2019?

Is this process to be used for accessing the “newest” widgets that were converted to HTML5, which is now called “Learning Interactions”? From my current observation, the best way to access the newer ‘widgets’ is through the Interactions > Learning Interactions. What am I missing? What is the HTML5 Animation selection/function in Cap 2019?

You posted this same question in a LinkedIn group.  I copy the answer which I posted there over here:

‘There is no link whatsoever between the Learning Interactions (which are the former widgets compatible with HTML output) and HTML animations. Captivate has no HTML animations included, sorry. I use this option mostly to insert OAMs created with Adobe Animate. It can be used also to insert more complicated HTML as well. Look on the Adobe forum for TLCMediaDesign, he has answered a lot about using this Captivate feature.”

Thanks again Lieve. I was going to update the thread but you beat me to it.

Sorry about that. We probably are not in the same time zone . And I have all notifications turned on.

Version 5 of the HyperText Markup Language cannot be used for animation. But a lot of people say “HTML 5” when they really mean “HTML 5 + CSS 3 + the updated version of Javascript. And using a combination of those technologies… Wikipedia page creation services

You are correct, terminology is seldom used correctly by most users. Look at the confusion between Flash and the Flash Player just to offer one example. Flash will not be dead end of 2020 (although it was renamed to Animate to increase the confusion), only the Flash Player which is necessary to play SWFs on a website, and Captivate’s output to HTML is a website.  With HTML animations in the menu of Captivate are meant animations which can be used in a non-SWF website, like OAMs

You could use a highlight box and one of the standard arrows (shapes) and then time them correctly or use a variable/trigger to show their visibility. If you need them to move use the Effects/Animation options on the timing tab. There’s also a motion path option that should do what you’re after.

Thanks, that’s what I’ve done, however, why have an option in Captivate if I can’t use it?

Now when publishing to HTML5, my audio is missing, even though it’s selected to be published. Frustrated!

This should help you understand what the HTML5 animation option is for:

In terms of your audio, can you place a screenshot of your timelines and your publish settings?

Seems to only let me upload one file at a time.

I like when them move to really point out something new on a familiar screen.

The regular animations I’ve used previously with SWF don’t work any more but are accessible right in Captivate. So I’m surprised the HTML5 animation option doesn’t work the same way.

The difference is that no HTML animations are included in the Gallery, as is the case for SWF animations. The workflow is the same, but you have to find HTML animations on the web or create them. I use either Edge Animate or CC Animate to create OAM’s to import in Captivate. You can find animations online, some even for free.

I’m highlighting a new tab that was added to our software. As well, pointing to an area on a screen with arrows. Nothing huge.

I believe those HTML5 animations are ones that are built in Animate CC or Character Animator CC. Could you use a GIF to get a similar result? What exactly do you envision (or what are you trying to do)?
