Browser will not automatically open to preview project in Captivate 2019

When I first installed Captivate 2019, the browser would automatically open when I selected a Preview option.  Now, for some reason, it no longer opens allowing me to preview my project.

What setting has been changed that I need to change back?

If you are talking about a non-responsive (Blank) project, the reason is that all Preview methods, except F11 (Preview HTML in Browser) use a temporary SWF output. IE is probably the only (outdated) browser which still has the Flash Player plugin automatically installed, and you need it to view SWF output.

This is very annoying, but the only Preview method to use is F11. In that case you’ll be able to use any modern browser. For a long project, I recommend to activate (temporarily) the TOC feature to allow you to quickly navigate to any slide.

Hi. I just had this same problem with no web-browser preview in Captivate 2019. I was using Google Chrome as the default web browser in Windows 10. I changed the default web browser to Microsoft Edge, (not Internet Explorer) and the Preview next 5 slides, (F10) opened the preview file in Microsoft Edge. Thanks for the tip!

I wanted to thank you again for responding to my request for help.  Ultimately, what worked for me was to uninstall Chrome and reinstall Chrome.  Before I did that however, I changed my default browser to IE and tested the Preview > Project option.  When that worked, I figured Chrome had somehow become corrupted with the connection to Captivate.  Happy New Year!

Hi,

Next time if you face an issue like this ( I hope you don’t) , try keeping chrome tab/s open and then preview your course. This generally works for me. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks,

Charu

My current project is Responsive, so what you’re saying is that opening in a browser will NOT work, only if i was currently working in a Non-Responsive project.

Thank you for your response.

Because Responsive projects can only publish to HTML, the Preview methods always use the default browser. Can ou check if the etension ‘html’ is associated with a browser? I did see questions where users had an association with a word processor or an editing program like Brackets or Notepad+

It is in a non-responsive project that you have to be careful, because all Preview methods except Preview HTML in Browser (F11) are using SWF output. In that case Flash security could cause issues.

How do I check for the extensions and their associations through Captivate 2019?

That is not a Captivate functionality. In Windows you can check the associations in the Explorer app.

Which Preview method are you using? If you talk about a non-responsive project, only Preview in Browser (F12 for SWF output) and Preview HTML in Browser (F11 for HTML output) will generate a temporary output folder and open in Browser.
