Reporting matching results in LMS results in escaped characters in output

When I review a report from my LMS on quizzes that have been completed, I get unexpected results from questions that were either Matching type or fill-in-the-blank type.

The data looks something like this (csv):

Option%201[.]Result%201., Option%202[.]Result%202., Option%203[.]Result%203., Option%204[.]Result%204.

For Matching results like this:

Option 1 <<matched with>> Result 1.
Option 2 <<matched with>> Result 2.
Option 3 <<matched with>> Result 3.
Option 4 <<matched with>> Result 4.

For fill in the blank the data looks something like this (csv):

{case matters=false}{order matters=true}Selection1, Selection2

I did checking with the LMS vendor:

  • Using Adobe Captivate 2017
  • Other question types aren’t being escaped like this. Only the question types Matching and Fill-in-the-Blank are escaped.
  • The data in the database is like this, so it isn’t a flaw in  the reporting function.
  • Using SCORM cloud to see what the SCO is actually reporting to the LMS isn’t an option due to firewall issues.
  • The LMS in question is Success Factors.
  • The SCO is published as SCORM 2004, 4th Edition.
  • No other publishing options tried result in usable reporting as the LMS only supports SCORM 2004 4th edition.
  • Success Factors claims no one else has reported this problem.

Is anyone else getting this?

Is there an option to strip escaped characters from the response or strip the {braced} attributes off of the response?

I’m sorry, but the real test to find out if the problem is with Captivate or with the LMS is to check in SCORM Cloud, because that IS the golden standard for SCORM.
