Rollover slidelets not sticking
Hi there! I'm Fergus. I'm originally from Ireland and via stints living and working as a trainer France, Spain, Brazil and South Africa I now find myself living and working in beautiful Canada. Professionally,  I come from over 10 years of teacher training in the English as Second Language industry where I was involved in many innovative 'ICT in classroom' projects. I also project managed curriculum development projects for deployment in a number of LMS products. Since 2016 my principal focus has been Instructional design. I transitioned to Adobe Captivate in 2018. Working as an Instructional designer has allowed me to also leverage skills with Photoshop, Indesign, Audition, Garageband, iMovie and Premiere Pro as well as live video recording, audio recording and photography. I love to collaborate and get to know people in this wonderful community! I've learned so much from new friends and colleagues I have met in the Adobe forums and I look forward to making more connections and growing together as a community.

I have been having an issue whereby I set a slidelet to stick but once I roll my mouse off the rollover slidelet it disappears as if I had not set the object to ‘stick’. Please see the short video demo and any help or insights would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Fergus

You probably didn’t see my answer yet. Forgot to ask which version you are using. Can you offer the complete number as it appears under Help, About Captivate?

Hi Lieve,

Thank you so much for your answer. I should have mentioned in the video I am using Captivate 2019 11.0.0.243.

I actually did see your answer last week but I wanted to wait until I had spoken with colleagues at my job about what action to take following the insights you provided.

In the end, I will re-work my slides with the rollover slidelets and convert them to click boxes. Also, it seems, this is a blessing in disguise because there was another problem with my approach. I had included some autoplay videos (skin removed) in the slidelets. The visual effect was cool but the problem was that if the user rolled off the defined rollover area the video would stop playing (another side effect of the slidelets not sticking) and would reset the video which was far from ideal.

I wonder why adobe included the rollover slidelet option if it is so buggy (no offence Adobe – I love Captivate  but it simply doesn’t work as described) and moreover is not supported by industry standard html5.

Thanks again for the answer – it helped a lot.

Thanks for appreciating my recommendation. Well…. slidelet used to be functional in previous versions for SWF output only, but now they don’t spend time on it anymore I suspect.

Another tip: please upgrade to 11.0.1.266.

Good luck with Captivate, you know already that I am a fan.

I will not offer you a real answer, but a recommendation. The Rollover slidelet has always been bit tricky, but since the end of Flash player was announced a couple of years ago, it has never been in the focus anymore of the Captivate team. I ti snot supported at all for HTML5 output which will be the only output supported in browsers in the near future. Do you really want to continue publishing SWF output?
