HTML preview/output not working

Dear Adobe Community,

Currently my html preview/output is not working and I wonder if you can help me with that.

Yesterday I updated an old non-responsive design project which had been working fine so far. I added some more in build states to multistate objects (clicked state) and some advanced actions to also change the state of these buttons if slides had been visited on entry. Apart from that I only changed some Smart Objects and some minor stuff like positioning and so on.

Since that change my preview in HTML wont work anymore, I  just get this icon indefinitely and it wont load any further.

However the “standard” preview still works fine. SWF in Browser works as well. Previewing other projects in HTML works fine.

Here’s some things I tried that didn’t work:

– Update my Firefox (standard browser)

– Uninstall Firefox and use Google Chrome

– Reinstall latest Firefox version

– Remove the added advanced actions and tested it again

– Upload the Output to Moodle and test it in the LMS environment (same issue)

I am using the latest Adobe Captivate Version.

If anyone has an idea, why this could be an issue, please reply!

Thanks already!

Greetings

Lieve – I am tagging onto this post.  I’ve been working all day and the F11 Preview has been working.  Now all of a sudden, it doesn’t work.  By that, I mean a new IE window appears and constantly spins like it is trying to load.  NO CONTENT screen appears.  Again, it has been working all day until 30 minutes ago.  The course is only about 20 slides (so far) with small graphic images and MP3 audio.  I thought maybe memory was full so ran “dcache” tool and deleted temp files from computer; also shut down and restarted computer.  Still unable to run the F11 preview.  Also ran the HTML5 checker within Captivate and nothing was flagged.  Any suggestions?

Are you on the most recent version 11.5? I can only recommend to clean the preferences.

If you are in a non-responsive project, F11 is the only preview method which will generate temporary HTML output. Occasionally it happened to me that a (complicated) course was not previewing well even with F11, but worked fine after publishing and uploading to a webserver (or LMS like SCORM Cloud if it was a SCO).

Another possibility is that the project has become corrupted…

Dear Lieve,

thanks for your answer, I was able to trace down the problem. Somehow a Drag&Drop Interaction was the problem which the HTML Tracker didn’t find in the 2019 version. After removing it and recreating it, it started working again. I assume it was an accidental glow or zoom effect within the interaction, otherwise I can’t explain. The problem was regarding the preview HTML in browser.

Thanks!

Some effects are not supported for HTML5 output. Those directly available in the Timing Properties panel are compatible with HTML5, those in the Gallery, more effects not.

Something must have been wrong with the D&D which is totally compatible with HTML5 output.

Are you talking about F11, Preview HTML in Browser?

I don’t know how old the previous versions were, but since the second version of CP2017 AutoPlay has been disabled. Are you telling that you don’t see the Play arrow neither?

Did you check the HTML tracker?
