Object audio failing to execute
Hi there! I'm Fergus. I'm originally from Ireland and via stints living and working as a trainer France, Spain, Brazil and South Africa I now find myself living and working in beautiful Canada. Professionally,  I come from over 10 years of teacher training in the English as Second Language industry where I was involved in many innovative 'ICT in classroom' projects. I also project managed curriculum development projects for deployment in a number of LMS products. Since 2016 my principal focus has been Instructional design. I transitioned to Adobe Captivate in 2018. Working as an Instructional designer has allowed me to also leverage skills with Photoshop, Indesign, Audition, Garageband, iMovie and Premiere Pro as well as live video recording, audio recording and photography. I love to collaborate and get to know people in this wonderful community! I've learned so much from new friends and colleagues I have met in the Adobe forums and I look forward to making more connections and growing together as a community.

Hi there,

Recently I have begun adding recorded audio to multi-state objects. I like this approach as I find it much more organised when there are a lot of objects on a slide. I find that the timeline can become very tricky to keep track of some times. However, sometimes for some unbeknownst reason the attached audio does not play in the export. If you have time, please have a look at my attached video in which I try to (as clearly as I can) outline the exact issue. Any help or ideas would be most appreciated as I have been pulling my hair out for a few days with this issue.

Many thanks!

Fergus

Do you realize that the exe output is Flash-based?  What will happen after the disappearance of the Flash player,

I always strongly recommend not to compress audio clips from WAV to MP3. That compression can better be done by Captivate on publishing£. Moreover I would in this case also recommend to use the Adobe Media Encoder to be sure that the codec is correct, since you use a third party recorder.

Object audio will play when the object, or in this case the state appears. It is indeed not timeline-synchronized. I have been publishing a lot about the Timeline, one of them was specifically about the different ways of using audio in relation with the Timeline.

could I ask another question on this matter. If, in an advanced action, I set up the following:

  • delay next action by 5 seconds
  • Pause

will this delay relate to 5 seconds on the timeline or does it refer to 5 seconds since you entered the slide, regardless of pause points on the timeline? following from that question, if the ‘delay’ command is independent of the timeline is it possible then that the following ‘pause’ command will interrupt an audio which is embedded in a smart shape(not a timeline audio)?

Thanks

Delay is not related to the timeline, it starts when the command is executed (usual when a button is clicked or if it is linked to a slide event when that event occurs). It will not be stopped by a Pause nor a pausing point.

Object audio can be paused by the command Pause, not by a pausing point.

Which version do you use, please? You only recorded the audio, you didn’t import it as an audio clip?  When you say ‘export’ do you mean after publishing and uploading to a webserver or a LMS?

Hi Lieve,

I am using Version 11.0.1. I made the recordings separately (using GarageBand) and then imported them as mp3s. I then added these audios to a state of the object(as shown in the video).

When I say export, yes I mean the ‘published’ version. In this case, I am exporting/publishing as .exe. Currently, I have not and will not be uploading to a webserver or LMS – I am simply using the .exe output.

I have checked, rechecked, and checked again all my advanced and shared actions and really can’t for the life of me find what is causing this to happen. The state changes as expected. I can see that because the character changes along with the speech bubble to which I added the audio. This indicates to me that the actions are correct. As far as I have read and understood, audio which is attached to an object is independent of the timeline unless the timeline is shorter than the duration of the audio. There seems to be some times when I export it and it mostly works ok and then others where the audio just cuts out in the middle or does play at all.
