CP 11.5 Update Issue – Open older files

I have some Captivate files which I created last week in the previous version of Captivate (11), and now when I go to open the files (11.5), they aren’t displaying (looks like they didn’t open).

The files seem to “load” (open) then nothing is displayed. When I try to open them again, Captivate says file is already open. (see screenshot)

Any help would be most welcome. Thank you.

It should be possible to open a CP2019, 11.0.1.  file in CP2019 11.5. Are you sure there are no lck files left form a session before you installed the update? Did you clean Preferences as mentioned in the release notes?

Thanks Lieve, I did clean the preferences and then just cleaned again. It seems to only impact a couple of files, most others are ok. I’ve taken a video demo of the end to end and will post shortly. thanks again for your contributions.

Did you check for lck files? It stands for ‘lock’.

Those files mean that either the project are open, or they have not be closed correctly Is the file you tried to open amongst htem? You can delete the lck files for the non-open files?

No, the file I was trying to open is not amongst the search results pictured.

Thanks again Lieve, i’ll need to recreate the project. Not sure if I can roll back the update?

Backup file will probably be already corrupt as well. When recreating, maybe you could open the Library of the existing project as external library? Have a look at:

Thanks Lieve, I tried that and got this message (attached) The files aren’t very big, a couple of MB in size.

Can you please try quitting Captivate and see in the Task manager, any other Captivate instance running?

If yes, please End the task and relaunch Captivate. Then open the project.

Hi Dominic, I’ve upload a video demo of me trying to open the file, then I’m able to open another file (similar, created the same time) and also at the end shows the contents of the folder.

Between 10 seconds and 55 seconds i’m waiting for the file to open and @01:05 I try to open the file again and get the message that it’s already open.

I then successfully open a different (but similar) file. Can I send you the file I’m having issues with?

Hi Dominic, I’ve been using Captivate for over 15 years. I see you were part of the Adobe pre-release team. Do you have any other suggestions, or could I possibly send you the file so as a team, Adobe may be interested to know what’s going on?

Hi Dominic, did you have any other suggestions? Thanks

Can I roll back my upgrade? I’ve lost a lot of work, and would like to recover these files. Thanks
