Hello

I’m looking for some expert advice please.

I do not have an LMS system and I’m rendering Captivate elearning courses in HTML format. I’m wondering which features will work in this format and which I need to avoid.

I’m using Captivate to create simulations of our online research tool. It would be nice if I can simulate users entering keywords into search boxes, clicking check-boxes, clicking buttons/links, opening drop-down menus and selecting options, scrolling down a page, etc. Is any/all of this possible?

Does Adobe have a checklist of which features work in which format?

I’m using the latest version of Captivate.

Thank you, Marion

HI. Thank you for your quick response. Good to hear most options will work. I will have to experiment.  Marion

As already have been pointed out, it is the Reporting to LMS which will not work, you have t avoid creating a SCO which needs a LMS for uploading.

However you need to upload to a webserver to have all functionality running smoothly. Moroever that server needs to support JSON mimetype. Even in that case, warn the learners not to use IE or old version of some other browsers. IE is obsolete in its support for HTML5.

Hi Marion, pretty much everything will work except for the reporting of interactions, or quiz results (this is LMS requirement).

You need to make sure you deliver your content via a web server (http:// or https:// at the beginning). An intranet should work, or cloud server.

Running your published project off a local folder like c:\ or even a network drive may cause problems, however even then most functionality will work.

Everything you mentioned above will work off a local location.

Simulating Scrolling is not possible. We usually demonstrate that, then invite people to click on the bottom of a scroll bar (scroll button) or even use shortcut keys like “PAGE DOWN” or the END key to scroll down pages. Applying shortcut keys to these actions are possible.
