Size matters?
Hi there! I'm Fergus. I'm originally from Ireland and via stints living and working as a trainer France, Spain, Brazil and South Africa I now find myself living and working in beautiful Canada. Professionally,  I come from over 10 years of teacher training in the English as Second Language industry where I was involved in many innovative 'ICT in classroom' projects. I also project managed curriculum development projects for deployment in a number of LMS products. Since 2016 my principal focus has been Instructional design. I transitioned to Adobe Captivate in 2018. Working as an Instructional designer has allowed me to also leverage skills with Photoshop, Indesign, Audition, Garageband, iMovie and Premiere Pro as well as live video recording, audio recording and photography. I love to collaborate and get to know people in this wonderful community! I've learned so much from new friends and colleagues I have met in the Adobe forums and I look forward to making more connections and growing together as a community.

Hi all,

I was wondering about Captivate output file size. Before I get started I know there are a lot of variables that could impact the answer here but I am asking really for ballparks and general rules of thumb more than a ‘fix my specific issue’ type question.

I am currently using version 11.0.1.266 and the zipped HTML5 export of one of the projects I am working on comes to about 150mb. So, let’s imagine there is a web server in place to test this output and that storage is not an issue. Are there issues that could arise from an output file of this size?

Could I also ask, (again, I know this is kinda like asking how long is a ball of string, but please bear with me) in very broad general terms, how big are your captivate output files? Or maybe a better question would be; is there an output size beyond which one shouldn’t go e.g. bigger than 100mb and you’re probably going to run into trouble?

If you want to deploy also for mobile devices, that may indeed be an issue because both hardware and used bandwidth is much lower than for desktop/laptops.
