Captivate 2019 – Using Smart Shapes instead of Text Captions causes Captivate Crash

Prior to installing 11.5 Update, Captivate 2019 worked as expected. I hate the outdated look of the various text captions, so when creating a software simulation (demonstration) I set my preferences to use Smart Shapes instead of text Captions.

As mentioned previously, it worked flawlessly until I installed the update. After that, Captivate will create demonstration simulations using text captions. As soon as I switch the captions to Smart Shapes, it crashes after attempting to record 1-5 screens.

I have reset my preferences using the clean preferences util. No change. I have set the executable to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR (never needed that previously). No change. I have uninstalled Captivate 2019 and re-installed without the 11.5 update: still doesn’t work.

One of my colleagues is running 2019 with the 11.5 update, without running as Admin: works fine.

Any suggestions?

Personally I rarely use Text Captions. If you look at the included themes and the Quick Start Projects you will see that captions are only used without any visible container (transparent). Recently I discivered another reason in Fluid boxes to avoid text captions. Although margins are available, they seem to be overridden when the caption is in a fluid box. Will try to explore more to see if there is a workaround. Margins work perfectlu with shapes.

A hot fix (very simple) was spread. You can find it under this thread:

Scroll to the end, where you see the explanation by Shreya Gupta, from Adobe staff.
