How do I direct the learner to take the course if they fail the pretest before completing it?

Good afternoon!  I am working with my first project that contains a pretest as well as an assessment at the end. The learner has to pass the pretest in order to skip the course all together.  If they get more than 2 wrong in the pretest they have to take the course and the assessment at the end.

Everything is working as planned, and then I realized something.  If the learner fails the pretest after the first 3 questions, they have to complete the rest of the pretest in order to get their results and then get re-directed to the course.  I would like to find a way for the learner to be redirected as soon as they fail the pretest, as opposed to waiting until the end.

I cannot find a way to edit the pretest action that looks at the score after each question – it only looks at the final score.

Does anyone know how I might be able to edit the Pretest Action to jump the learner to the results slide before they complete the pretest?  Or any other work-around that allows this for the learner?

Thank you in advance!

Good morning!  I think this is exactly what I want to be able to do.  It says you will explain in a blog post – is that coming soon?  Also, I was wondering, since you are not using pre test slides, are you able to have a separate quiz assessment at the end of the course?  The intent of using the pretest was to have a different set of questions for the learner to have to pass.  Is that possible with this solution?

I look forward to hearing what you have to say!

Thank you,

Jennifer

I will try to finish the blog today.

As I tried to explain,  if you need to report to the LMS, you should put the final assessment in a separate file. Reason is that I couldn’ use Pretest slides due to their limitations (no advanced actions, no navigation). If you put the final quiz in the same course, the quizzing system variables will take into account both the pretest and the final quiz if they are in the same course. That can be solved with JS or with the CpExtra widget from InfoSemantics (Australia). Easiest way is to put the final quiz in a separate file. You can use whatever you want in that case, even random questions and question pools. I took out reporting for the ‘Pretest’ slides, but there is no way to take them out of Quiz total.

In my first answer I referred to an old blog post. However pretest slides have several limitations. One of them is that you cannot use an advanced action On Enter as is possible for normal quiz slides.

I just published an example file, where I created a workaround for the limited Pretest slides. The setup will be explained (probably today) in a blog post. It will not solve your issue completely, you will have to put the final quiz in a separate file which you call from the first file. At least if you need reporting to a LMS. Reason: quizzing system variables will keep track of both the simulated Pretest slides AND the final quiz slides. Another workaround could be the use of JS or the CpExtra widget to edit the quizzing system variables.

Long time ago I wrote a blog about a similar situation in a quiz. Since the pretest slides have dedicated system variables, this blog could help you maybe? Sorry, but since it is old, the embedded file is SWF, try to find a browser which gives you still access to the Flash Player to see that file.
