A newbie says hello to the Captivate community, and asks for directions in his first, tentative steps.
Diving in to the Pool
My name is Jerry Johnson, and I am brand-new to the Captivate community.
I have been teaching (and training) for just about my whole life, but I am just now entering the world of online education. This isn’t because I’m afraid of technology (quite the opposite) I’m a huge fan and ‘early adopter’, it’s just that I have yet to be exposed to truly engaging online learning environments on a large scale.
I suspect the Captivate community may be exactly the entry point I’ve been hoping (and waiting) for.
Towards that end, I look to all of you, my fellow community members, to take what I assume will be an amazing journey into these now-being-charted waters…
Let’s get started, shall we?
And so I arrive at my first discussion point:
In your experience, what are the best free (or nearly free) introduction/overview resources for the aspiring Captivate developer, aside from membership in this community?
Problem with the ‘free’ resources is that you will not have curation. There is a lot valuable stuff around, but also real crap. It would be interesting to have such curation.
Based on my >10 years of answering almost daily questions about Captivate, I have summarized a couple of years ago what I consider to be the main stumbling blocks in Captivate. That is mostly still valid, but you can add if you need it ‘development with fluid boxes’. I know it is presented as being simple, but that is not the case IMO.
Here is the link to that blog; I also have it published here in the community but is so hard to find my personal blogs here:
