New to the product. I was wondering if there are keyboard shortcuts for special characters for instance
Trademark and copyright symbols, and if so, please may you let me know.
I am trying to figure it out.

Alt + 0153 for trademark on your keyboard
Alt + 0169 for copyright on your keyboard
Sure, but these symbols are available right away in Captivate. I am bit lazy sometimes, only use Alt- combinations when necessary and never did really memorize them as I do for Captivate shortcuts. But certainly an alternative answer for this question. I doubt that the OP does read answers.

You could use the Alt-ASCII code of course, but Captivate provides symbols like copyright and trademark at your fingertips to insert in any text container. Have a look at this screenshot, where you see the & button (next to the variables X button) in the Character part of a text container (caption or shape):
