Uploading Captivate Simulations to Cornerstone LMS

Hi

I am working for a client who has the Cornerstone LMS. When I package up my Captivate files for just HTML5 it uploads fine and shows in the LMS.

My client has users who want to use mobile so my understanding is that I need to select both HTML5 and Flash.

When I do Cornerstone won’t accept the SWF files. Are SWF files still needed for mobile or has that now been updated to only require HTML5?

Many thanks

I tested all browsers, none supported SWF for lack of Flash Player!

IE has Flash Player plugin? Chrome still has the Flash Player plugin but you have to enable it. Edge never had that plugin.

Hi, Simon,

Most LMS platforms are updated to HTML5, which will run normally on mobile devices. The problem with running SWF is not in platform but in browsers, as they no longer accept the Flash Player plugin.

We only publish in HTML5 mode today.

Regards,

Not totally correct, sorry. At this moment several browsers still support or have the Flash Player plugin.  And there still are LMSs which still support only SWF, no HTML. Moreover some browsers have limited support for HTML like the older versions of IE which are still imposed in some companies.

The misunderstanding by the OP is that dual publishing is needed if mobile devices are used. I explained in my answer why this is a wrong idea.

Thank you for the post, and the following comments.  It sounds like things got simplified with HTML5 running on both desktop and mobile.

Yes and No. Problem is that not all browser support HTML5 output to the same degree, whereas SWF output was standardized, looked the same in all browsers which is no longer the case.

Big misunderstanding! There is NO need whatsoever to publish still to SWF, certainly not when you expect mobile devices to be used which support only HTML5 since eons. Soon the Flash Player will also disappear from desktop/laptop browsers. Dual publishing results in having desktop/laptop showing SWF output, which can not only be very different from the HTML output, but will not show in recent versions of browsers which do not have the possibility to show SWF (Edge) or disable the plugin by default (Chrome).

Please publish ONLY to HTML5.
