How can I merge two .cptx files I am working on?

Hello fellow e-Learning developers,

I am currently working on a training course that was originally created as Power Point slides and then moved into Captivate 2019 through the “Project from MS PowerPoint” option. The slides were set in Power Point to Standard fit and once moved to Captivate they have a resolution of 1440 (W) x 1080 (H). I also used Captivate 2019 to record a simulation (on both demo and training modes) with a screen resolution 1024 (W) x 768 (H). The simulation is related to the content of my course.

The way I storyboarded my course is that there will be a point in the course in which the simulation will play. Is it possible to move the slides from the simulation to my Captivate PPT project in order to publish the files? I haven’t used Captivate since the 2017 version but had mostly been using it to develop course slides, no frills. I want to publish my project just so the folks who will peer review the content can see the learning assets altogether – otherwise I have no option but to send them separate Captivate files and I want it all to make sense.

Does any of you have any insight on how to accomplish this successfully? Are there any best practices for this? I have attempted to use use the Aggregator Project approach (File > New Project > Aggregator Project) but this will only look for .SWF in the computer and right now my projects are still in .CPTX format. I have also tried to have both the Captivate course and the simulation open in Captivate 2019 and copy the simulation slides one by one into the Captivate course, but when I paste the simulation slides they all paste wonky and un-formatted. Your help is much appreciated. This is a lifesaving matter for me in my history as an e-Learning developer. Thank you!

It might be as simple as copying and pasting the slides but there are a couple of items in your message that set off alerts for me.

The different sized projects could be a problem and end up distorting the images on some of your slides. I would likely resize the smaller of the two projects first so that they have the right aspect ratio and resolution. You can do this from the Modify dropdown menu and select resize. Pay attention to the options on the resize project window. Depending on your needs you may wish to only resize the slide and keep your objects the same. Maybe not.

Once they are the same size you should be able to copy and paste from one project to another. Again, there may be items that are outside of my knowledge of what you’ve done to build these courses. For example, certain object styles might change or you may end up with two themes in one project.

Make sure you save backups of both before attempting any changes so you can always revert to the originals if needed.
