Need a little help – or pointed in the right direction.  I’m trying to insert mp4 video from my computer.  I get this error.  It does matter what option I choice: Event, Slide or attempting to insert directly into library.  Nothing works.

I am not an expert on this, but I had the same problem until I ran across this thread. To do this, go to All Programs on your computer, to your Adobe programs, and open Adobe Media Encoder CC. At the top left, navigate out to where you have your video. This shows up in the preview screen. Double click your video, and it will show up in the queue to the right. This gives you the options to change format and other items. Mine defaulted to the H264 mentioned above. At the top right, it says Auto-Encode Watch Folders and has a pause and play icons. Click the play icon and it will re-encode the video. Then try loading the video again. This is the first time I have tried it, and it worked, but the video came in at too low of resolution. I will have to fiddle with the settings to fix that.

That is what I meant in my answer. The H264 codec which is chosen automatically is perfect for Captivate. Of course you can still change a lot of settings, to have a final output which fits the CP project: correct resolution and quality, audio setup etc. Bit difficult to explain all those settings in a comment, where you cannot even insert images.

The extension ‘mp4’ can mean several different codecs. Can you try to re-encode using Adobe Media Encoder which is packaged with Captivate? Convert to H264 and see if the error popup up also on the converted mp4.
