Software simulation with captions, inside a responsive project. Is this possible? How would you do it?

Hi there!

Very new to Captivate and learning as I go.

I am creating a new responsive course, which includes software simulation.

I am hoping to create a blank responsive project which has general information at the beginning and then I would like to include video which show software simulations (with captions). So as the user clicks through the tabs, it will show instructional software simulations when played, and has the option to show captions.

This is where I am up to.

Attempt 1: I made the responsive project with blank slides. I saved the software simulation as a video and embedded it into the responsive project, but when saved as a video mp4, the captions do not show on the responsive project.

Attempt 2: Next, I made a blank responsive project and created a software simulation in a new project. I copied and pasted the software simulation slides into my blank responsive project, but obviously I can’t modify the software simulation content to fit within a elearning course.

Is there any other ways to have software simulation with captions, to fit into an responsive elearning course??

Thanks,

Adrian

Thank you for your help Lieve. Haha I understand that kidding comparison.

I have been scouring the net for the basics as well and possibly thinking about the Adobe Cert. Do you think the course is worthwhile?

I have seen a software simulation within a multistate object before and will have to try record it for you to see how it was done. It was a 3 tab folder, which had simulations within each of the tabs.

Thanks for your help.

You can have an event video in a multistate object. That means that if you publish a software simulation in demo mode to mp4 you can insert it as an event video. Just wonder why you would do that. I never use the demo mode, but prefer Video Demo for a pure video demonstration of software. Multiple reasons: quality video is better (need to set it to 32-bit) a rather capable video editor which allows non-destructive editing. It may seem more work but is worthwhile.

Do not ask me to comment about the certification. It gives you a good overview of most features, but IMO not in-depth explanations. My view on training is very different, based on decades of software training which I coached for all level of users and software. Have to tell you if you ignore it, that I have been teaching in Flanders mostly, and the level of formal education is here also different from North America and other countries. If you want to read about my view which may not suit you at all, visit my website.  No Captivate trainee is without skills, it is important to use those skills in a personal way to learn Captivate.  Important to know what those starting skills are AND what you want to do with the application.

In the portal I published an article about what I consider to be the biggest stumbling blocks for starters in Captivate. For a basic training, estimate it to be very important to understand those, and step-by-step workflows can be acquired by other ways.

Have been searching for minutes to find my blog here which I refer to… impossible. It may have disappeared. Sorry for the link to my blog:

http://blog.lilybiri.com/challenges-for-starters

Each of those ‘challenges’ has a blog post here as well (like Quiz Resources, Timeline Resource, Theme Resources) which summarizes and gives links to all the blogs I have written for each of them.  There are a lot…

You posted same question in the Adobe forums as well.

I love to help users, but it is impossible to coach someone to participate in a triathlon tomorrow, when still needing to learn to swim, to bike and to run. Sorry for that kidding comparison.

Please master first the basics of Captivate. Can only offer one tip: it is IMPOSSIBLE to add interactive objects to a state in a multistate object. Moreover in a responsive project you cannot even add state objects in a multistate object which is in a normal Fluid Box.
