New version of Captivate coming soon?

Hi,

I am wondering if there is a new version of Adobe Captivate coming soon?  I would love features like Layers for popup info and pausing page audio when on a new layer like Articulate Storyline offers.  Also better Accessibility features like Storyline has.  For example easily turning off screen readers access to certain items, Built-in Quiz functions that are accessible, and triggers.
Thanks,
Russ

It’s been a year since I asked.  What are they waiting for?  We need a new version.

Did you attend the conference, including the keynotes?

I have answered in the Adobe forums, here is the link:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/captivate/captivate-popups-on-a-layer-timeline-panel-and-using-pause-points-in-audios/td-p/11544868?page=1

It is a totally different application from SL, but please wait with a judgment until you have learned at least the basics of Captivate. I know very well why I prefer it largely over SL, it is much less limiting my creativity in eLearning.

I agree. I would like to see Captivate have a massive layout update as well! I learned and used Captivate years before I learned Storyline. I like Storyline’s layers and such better. I’m hoping Adobe puts some love into Captivate’s GUI soon, too.

Hi Lieve.  Can you explain further the comment about “Slide audio can be paused on content slides when you have a pausing point.  Popups are on a layer (timeline panel) in Captivate as well.”?  What is a pausing point?  Also I have never seen a Popup specific layer in the timeline.  Is it accessible? Does it allow focus only to the popup for screen readers?  Thanks for the help!!!

Captivate had triggers years before StoryLine was born…and they are a lot more powerful as well. Advanced actions, shared actions, embedded JS can be launched from a lot of events. I am using the CP terminology.

Slide audio can be paused on content slides when you have a pausing point.  Popups are on a layer (timeline panel) in Captivate as well.

Captivate has always been rated as being one of the best elearning authoring tools concerning Accessibility. It is not perfect, but as an European have my idea about the sometimes crazy requirements concerning accessibility.  I have been teaching to blind people, and some of the problems are also due to the screen readers. But will refrain from more comment on that feature.

If I would log my list of features which are NOT available in StoryLine it would probably be very long as well (Library, reuse features, roundtripping with other applications). It is not a good idea to compare ‘features’ if you are not really an expert in both tools.

The version 11.5 released end of 2019 has not a new full version number but did add a lot of features in Captivate. AFAIK that only happened once before (version 5 and 5.5) and I have a suspicion about the meaning. But ‘Ceux qui parlent, ne savent pas. Ceux qui savent, ne parlent pas”.

Thanks for the insight!  Lieve…can you explain a bit more about this comment? “Slide audio can be paused on content slides when you have a pausing point.  Popups are on a layer (timeline panel) in Captivate as well.”  I have never seen anything about Popups on their own “Layer” in the timeline.  This would be a huge thing for me.  Also, I do not understand what you mean by a “Pause” point.  Thanks for any help you can provide.  My experience for both tools is new.  So for me the learning curve in Storyline is much lower.
