Hello Community.

I am a newbie and am looking for training resources for how to capture screen activity, i.e. I want to train people how to do some after effects work on my computer. I would walk students thru how I use AE by walking them thru a project while I explain in audio what I am doing and why. Any suggestions?

Captivate has two workflows:

  1. Video Demo: allows to capture as pure video. You’ll end up with a cpvc-file, which can be published only to MP4. That means you end up with a passive video.
However you can use the MP4 in a normal cptx file on a slide, and convert it into an interactive video. In that situation you can have multiple overlay slides with static information and/or with Knowledge Check questions. You can even add more slides or create several short video clips, and insert static slides in between the video slides.
  2. Oldest way which made Captivate famous and still available is to capture a Software simulation. Such a simulation is slide based, only creates video slides when necessary (like for dragging or other mouse actions). Such a software simulation can be captured in 3 default modes: Demo, Training, Assessment. Easier to edit due to slide based. You may find Training or Assessment mode especially interesting for your students. I have found Captivate with that goal in mind because in university college I was teaching many software applications from MS and Adobe.  A well-known combination (which can also be done from a simultaneous capture in three modes) is a course with a branching menu to ‘Show me, Let me Try, Test me’ scenario.

I didn’t write many blogs about capturing for multiple reasons. Here is one link:

I will post a link to one of my interactive videos, to show what is possible for software training with that workflow.
