How to Start Training with Adobe Captivate

Adobe Captivate equips one with various skills in conducting a successful e-learning project. Soft skill learning on the other entails technically acquired practical skills outside software simulation and demonstration. In this stage, you will learn how to create soft skill lessons using Adobe Captivate properties like images, multiple slides and texts. Some other functions you might learn include:

  1. How to insert and format a text button
  2. How to create a blank project
  3. How to add image to placeholders

Step 3

Recording demonstrations and simulations

Once you have learnt how to perform simulation and demonstration with Adobe Captivate, the next step is to record it for reference. This is one of the most extensive stages since it covers one of the fundamental aspects of Adobe Captivate—recording desktop activities like training, demonstrations, custom simulations and assessments.

The recorded files are what the trainer uses to train the learner during e-learning training. The files would contain topics of a particular online course, course work and CVS question templates.

Step 4

Captions and styles

After recording the lessons, you will start working on the recorded videos by adding text captions to bring about the interactive perspective of Adobe Captivate. The editing of the default caption style is carried out as well as the control slide timing.

Step 5

Other features of Adobe Captivate

There are dozens of features in Adobe Captivate that are used to enhance e-learning. This is the stage where you will learn properties like how to add images to projects and implementation of Photoshop.

Some of the features in this category include working with PowerPoint, interactive videos, virtual reality, how to include knowledge checks and device preview.

Step 6

Finishing Project

In every Adobe Captivate project, the project is only completed after it has been published and ready for consumption by the intended audience. Therefore this is why you get equipped with publishing formats.

Learning Adobe Captivate through the discussed steps is only achievable if the process is augmented with a live video tutorial to demonstrate the stages. You can only experience handling Adobe Captivate by constantly committing your lessons to evaluation practice occasionally.

You will not like my comment, but I wrote it for other users reading this text  – hope they continue reading the comment(s) as well.

As a professor, trainer (decades) and forum moderator for Captivate in the Captivate forums (since 2009), my idea about training may be completely different. Especially about Captivate which I use since version 1 and support very intensively since version 4.

No trainee is a dummy concerning IT nor Learning. My view is that each training should have focus on the existing skills and needs of the trainees. Whenever I design a training schedule, basic or intermediate, I will first talk with the trainees about those two aspects. A canned training does never suit every trainee or group of trainees.

One example in your blog: many users do never use Captivate for simulations at all.  Why include it in a basic training when there is no need for it? On the contrary all trainees want to be explained the difficult starter stumbling blocks and learn about good practice and time savers. I don’t see those in your schedule: what is the Timeline, how do I set up a custom Theme, how do I set up a Quiz and tweak the default design?

Caption is a legacy item which is used even in the sample and Quick start projects only as text style. For the rest captions have been replaced by Shapes completely because of their flexibility.  Text buttons and Image buttons: same remark. Since Captivate 6 (8 years ago) was released, those two types of buttons are very outdated. You don’t mention responsive vs non-responsive project neither, a hype question since many versions as well. Putting software sims and soft skills on the same level?  That is a bridge too far IMO.

My apologies, but I see this as a schedule for a version before Captivate 5. At that moment Captivate was almost exclusively used for software simulations. It is very outdated for the present powerful version 11.5.

My biggest concern is for other Captivate users, reason why I try to help them daily on social media since over a decade. Please, try to understand my concerns.
