Detect M1 Macs automatically?
(10)

Hi there. I just started with Captivate, and when I tried using it, I found it didn’t work. Assets were jumping all over the screen, PowerPoint wouldn’t import, and so on.

After sleeping on it, I guessed (correctly) that it is because I have an M1 Mac (a Mac Mini).

Could Adobe make it so that the correct version gets downloaded automatically? You can already tell that I’m using a Mac. Can you not tell that I’m using an M1 Mac?

Failing that, perhaps Adobe could put dialog box, asking users which version they would like to download, M1 or Intel.

I was lucky to figure it out, but it wasn’t a great introduction to the software.

My understanding is that Adobe Captivate hasn’t been updated for M1 hardware.

I was aware of the update to work with macOS Big Sur but the post you included clearly states that Captivate (2019 release) DOES NOT work on machines with M1 chipset.

Well that’s enough to keep me from buying a new computer today. Thanks for the warning!

According to the Captivate team when I spoke with them on online chat, they have no plans to release a M1 version of captivate. They also were not aware if Captivate had been tested on a M1 Mac using Rosetta – and had no plans to test it themselves!

Andrew, that response is almost comical if it wasn’t so serious!
I guess what they’re saying is that they have no interest in having Mac users as customers.
I’m almost speechless.

There might be no plans to update Captivate 2019 to run on M1 Macs but I would be very surprised if Adobe Captivate version 12 didn’t include the M1 processor.

Any news on when the new version will be released? From my understanding, they are teasing a preview at eLearning World.

From your experience, after a preview such as this, how long does it take for the release of the new version. Just curious as you are connect and usually in the know.

Thanks
