I need to make a decision about Captivate; a detailed answer to this question would definitely help.

Why didn’t you answer my questions? How can I offer a more detailed answer, or more clarifications when I am not sure what you want exactly. Someone from the staff just posted an answer about the demise of EXE, but mentioned only publishing to mp4 which is IMO very limited, since you will not be able to see any branching nor interactivity, and never see the results of quizzes.

More details are needed to give a you a full answer.

Publishing: are you talking about a non-responsive or a responsive project?  In the first case you have to know that you should only publish to HTML5 since the Flash Player in browsers needed to view SWF output has died with 2020.  You have posted a similar thread about publishing to EXE, which is also based on SWF. Interactive pdf is dead since quite a while because it needed a SWF player plugin. You can eventually publish to video (mp4) but know that you’ll lose all interactivity since video is by definition a passive medium. If you turned on Reporting in Quiz Preferences, you’ll end up with a SCO, which is a zipped folder having all the necessary files for uploading to a LMS. If you didn’t turn on Reporting, you will end up with a folder as well. Depending on the Upload you’ll want to do you could turn on zipping. Example: if you want to upload a project here, it needs to be without Reporting and you need to let Captivate zip the folder. When I upload to my domain, I don’t have to zip the folder.

Uploading: I already mentioned that you need a LMS if Reporting has been turned on because you ended up publishing a SCO. If you don’t have reporting turned on,  to have all the functionality of the project published to HTML 5 you need to upload to a webserver. Google about the possibilities either to install a webserver, or to upload to a free or paying webserver. The portal here uses amazon.aws.
