SWF Files created on a software simulation – Is this correct given the HTML5 conversion?

Hi, This may be a basic question, but here it goes. I am trying to create a software simulation. I went through all the steps and got about 250+ captures. When I go in to clean up and delete the extra ones, I see a lot that are SWF video files. I thought these weren’t being supported. Is this going to work when I publish and upload to an LMS?

Also is there a way to convert it from this full motion swf to just a regular image?  I can’t go back and recapture at this point.

Thank you!

It could work, but sometimes it is not working… sort of hybrid answer.

I suspect you are pointing at the Full Motion Recording slides (FMR). You can recognize them at the camera icon in the Filmstrip. Those are originally SWF files, but when published they should be converted to MP4. However several users have reported problems with that conversion in the forums.

My recommendations since the announcement of the future demise of Flash player almost 4 years ago:

  • For a software simulation in demo mode, which will have lot of FMRs, replace it by a Video Demo.
  • For a sim in one of the other mode which still can have FMRs, stop the recording and capture a Video Demo slide when you cannot avoid the creation of a FMR. Video demo will directly be published to MP4, no conversion is needed.
  • Since you cannot repeat the recording, you could still find the FMR slides and replace them by a Video Demo slide, or create a static slide based on the FMR slide and using the background (is in the Library) from one of the neighbor slides.

Personally I avoid FMRs since I started creating software sims. In many cases you can use an alternative for mouse scrolling or dragging using clicks or shortcut keys.
