Where can I find prebuilt themes and templates for Adobe Captivate?
There are options – Karlis and his team at Faster Courses have some Captivate templates you can purchase I believe. But as with all things you don’t build yourself, it can be challenging to resolve issues when you try to edit or make significant changes to the files. I know that Karlis and his team do excellent work (I’ve had them work with me so I am speaking from real-world experience).
Faster Courses offers cptx files and call them templates. In Captivate a template file has the extension cptl and you create a project from it using New Project from Template. That is NOT the case with the so-called templates by eLearning Brothers, Faster Courses and is also not the case for the Quick Start Projects packaged with Captivate 11.5. This is a significant difference, reason why I posted my answer.
that’s fine. but people do have choice, and they may have a better or different experience to YOU. That’s your opinion. I believe that people should investigate and find out for themselves – because THEY may get a good solution that meets THEIR needs.
Why are you getting agressive, because I just explained what a Template is in the Captivate terminology. The term ‘Template’ is used for a cptl-file, not for an example cptx file which can be also used as a basis for a new project but it is simply different.
This has nothing to do with MY preferences, this is just a glossary explanation. The title of this question was about Themes and Templates. Both words exist in Captivate: a cptm and a cptl file. If you choose to use a term for something else, it doesn’t mean that that ‘elxe’ is worthless, never did tell that (I have lot of blogs explaining how to use the Quick Start Projects). As a 12 years long moderator of the Captivate Adobe forum, I know very well how ‘confusing’ vague terminology can be.
I was in no way being aggressive, that’s your interpretation reading a text response in a forum that you’ve been moderating for many years. I was, like you, making a thoughtful and potentially helpful comment to a poster and providing something for them to look into. With your cautions on the terminology of “template”, they will be able to determine if it is an option for them or not.
First of all, never use a template file (cptl) in Captivate. They are buggy, but have never been packaged with Captivate. However some use the word ‘template’ for a normal cptx file. which can be used as ‘example’ file. You find example files, which you can edit to your wishes in the Assets panel provided with Captivate 11.5 under ‘Projects’.
Each Captivate file is based on a Theme. You have already several themes packaged with Captivate, look under the big button ‘Themes’. The projects in the Assets panel also are based on a theme, which you can use. However some of those themes are not very complete. You can find several blogs which I wrote about using those projects and themes on my personal blog.
Each sample project in this portal also is based on a Theme, some may be useful, others not at all. All depends on the developer of the project. Some developers do not use themes the way they were planned to be used. I am just being honest. Check if they didn’t override object styles and if the master slides have been set up correctly.
Have a look at this older blog to see the difference between Themes and Templates in Captivate.
