I want to know if it is worth it to get the Adobe Captivate 2017 or the 2019?

In my opinion, the most important improvements and new features for 2019 were…

  • Interactive video
  • Improvements to responsive design
  • The  use of YouTube for slide video (and later Vimeo)
  • Images as buttons (release in update 2)

If I had to use Adobe Captivate 2017, could I get by with it? Yes, I think so. Many of the improvements like virtual reality have not influenced how I design elearning. I don’t use features because they are available. I will use a piece of technology because it’s a solution to the learning challenge I’ve been given. VR has been available since the summer of 2018 and I have not used it for any of my client’s projects.

I’m a big believer in getting the latest and greatest version of software simply because of improvements and updates that happen with newer versions.

That being said, not fully sure what Project Charm has for us once it is released, hopefully at some point this year. From what was viewed in the fall, it looks like a big change is coming and it will be nice to get my hands on it and play around a bit.

Big kid toys, you know?

You should get CP2019, the most recent version is 11.8 but it is only available as subscription license.

CP2019 had two main releases: 11.0 and 11.5. Read about the features which were added only in 11.5 in this blog:

First Reflections on Version 11.5.0. – eLearning (adobe.com)

If you look at my personal blog as (search for Lilybiri) you’ll see that I have posted tons of blogs only about the new features in 11.5. The last version 11.8 was necessary as a patch for M1 chips, Monterey and Win11. That may be another reason why you shouldn’t go for CP2017.
