Hi,

I would like to design a software simulation, where one of the steps that would be assessed in the simulation would be the correct entry of data into a field.

Every step that is made in a software simulation, it appears, gets recorded as having some level of interactivity – to use numbers as an example, clicking on a cell, clicking on the correct styling for a cell, as far as the steps that have been recorded for the simulation, so that when the training/assessment is run, there is feedback that is triggered based upon whether the action the user has taken is correct/incorrect, according to what has been recorded.

However, typing data into a cell (using numbers as an example now) gets recorded as an animation/movie. This is not a step that the user has any degree of control/input over.

Is there any way to configure that setting or change it so that the entry of specific data could trigger a correct/incorrect feedback response? Or really that the user would have the ability to even input the data. Just like what happens with clicking.

I am using numbers as an example here but I am curious about this for really any piece of software.

Thank you

I have attached some screenshots to show what I mean.

Sorry about this issue. Monterey/M1 is supported in version 11.8, which is subscription only. However, being a Win user, I have no idea whether this software sim problem is solved.

Oops, that means you are on a Mac, because that version was released to cope with Big Sur. It is not compatible with Monterey nor with the M1 chip.

Now I feel incompetent, because I am a Windows user. If you are on Big Sur, I have no idea why the sims are not functional, and do not remember a possible workaround. You can of course delete the Typing Text object and replace it manually with a TEB. Do you have a lot of them? I suppose the click box slides are working correctly?

I will try that. I have a few so far, that method should work fine, thank you. Hopefully in future builds that behavior will be available for the M1/Monterey.

Yes, the click box slides seem to be working fine, everything else is following what appears to me, to be the normal training/assessment behavior.

I suspect that you used Software Simulation but didn’t capture in the correct mode. It should be Training or Assessment, not Demo. Personally I always record in the three modes, although I never use Demo mode anymore since it can better be replaced by a Video Demo. In Demo mode you get the Typing text, in Assessment/Training mode you will have a Text Entry Box and the correct answer will be stored. The TEB can even be scored and be part of a Quiz result.

You need to know that each TEB will be on a separate slide, you can edit the number of attempts before or after capture. Maybe this blog post can offer some clarifications:

Thank you, for this example I used Training and Assessment modes, not Demo : ) That is especially why this is confusing to me. I will look at the link you provided, thank you.

OK, I vaguely remember that some users had similar problems with a specific version. Can you check the full version number under Help, About Captivate?

It’s the 2019 Release, 11.5.5.678.

Thank you
