This is in continuation with the previous blog. It provides a first hand information on AI tools from the perspective of an Instructional Designer. This would help you get the maximum advantage for exploring AI tools for eLearning courses.
This weekend, I went on a refreshing drive through the mountains, leaving the city behind and immersing myself in the serenity of nature. As I navigated the winding roads, I couldn’t help but appreciate the role of AI in modern vehicles: from GPS navigation to driver assistance systems, AI has revolutionized the way we drive, and I kept thinking about my blog on how AI can also transform my work as an instructional designer. So here I am, back with the second part of my blog. Buckle up and join me as we dive into the magic of AI tools and unlock our eLearning superpowers!
In the first part of our blog (https://elearning.adobe.com/2023/03/unlock-your-elearning-superpowers-discover-the-magic-of-ai-tools-part-1-2/ ) we discussed using AI-generated voices, research, and simplifying complex information.
As promised, I’m back with the second part of our team’s AI exploration journey. In this post, I’ll share what we explored in the world of AI-generated music and visuals, and how they can make a significant impact on eLearning content.
Category#3: A Symphony of Emotions: AI-Generated Music in eLearning
The moment my colleague started talking about AI-generated music, the room went silent, and everyone’s ears perked up, eager to learn more. We saw a short video of how music is used in movies and discovered how it could evoke various emotions.
After that video, we dived into the discussion to debate if music helps learners connect with the content on a deeper level. We concluded that Instructional Designers are typically satisfied using generic music in their modules, citing cost as a huge obstacle to avoid exploring its use.
One of my teammates played an AI-generated background track that she had composed using Splash (https://www.splashmusic.com ). The tune was catchy, and we could imagine it being used to introduce a new concept in an animated explainer video.
We also explored Harmonai (https://www.harmonai.org ), an open-source generative audio tool that simplifies music production, and another colleague shared a suspenseful background score she had created for a timed quiz in an interactive learning game.
We were amazed at the potential of these tools in enhancing the learner’s experience, and concluded that with AI-generated music, we can create custom soundtracks that perfectly match the mood and tone of our eLearning modules, leading to heightened emotional engagement without increasing costs. This is definitely in our list to increase the wow factor of our modules.
Category #4: Painting the Perfect Picture: AI-Generated Images and Diagrams
As we moved on to visuals after music, the excitement in the room was palpable. We learned how AI-generated diagrams and images can make complex concepts more accessible and easier to understand. You may have heard about AI tools that generate images, but what about visuals that represent some technical information?
With AI-generated visuals, we can create custom illustrations and diagrams that present information in a clear and concise manner, that too at a low-cost.
One of our teammates showcased a flowchart she’d created using Uizard & Diagram (https://uizard.io/ ; https://diagram.com ) that illustrated the steps in a project’s life cycle for a project management course.
We also got to see how Vizcom (https://www.vizcom.ai ) brings drawings to life, creating captivating images for eLearning content.
The last tool we explored was Mirage & Magic 3D (https://www.mirageml.com/ https://research.nvidia.com/labs/dir/magic3d/ ), which generates 3D designs by simply describing what you want through text. We were left speechless by the stunning 3D cell structure one of our teammates had created for a biology lesson.
After watching these tools in action, I could hear silent murmurs between people about mock-up images, and quick turn-around times. Definitely an eye-opener for many.
It’s a Wrap
As we wrapped up our AI exploration meeting, we couldn’t help but feel energized by the potential of these AI tools in transforming the way we create eLearning content. Incorporating music and visually appealing diagrams into our eLearning modules can significantly enhance the learning experience and improve retention.
A fruitful day ended with excitement that has still not diminished to this day when I’m writing this blog. We got to explore various AI tools that help meet the ever-increasing expectations of today’s learners. This paved the way for discussing and bringing forward more engaging and immersive learning experiences in our team, and hopefully yours as well. So, let’s keep exploring, learning, and pushing the boundaries of instructional design.
