Cannot view published interactive video in browser

Hi all,

I’m on my final days testing Adobe Captivate Classic. I created an interactive video and published it to HTML5.

While the HTML5 preview out of Captivate works just fine, I can’t get the file to work once I unpack the .zip-file and click on “index_TINCAN.html”. There’s just an endless loading wheel, regardless whether I’m using Firefox or Chrome.

Publishing to Video or Windows.exe doesn’t work either, the error message says something like “video with overlay slides is not supported” (at least that’s what it says in my native German).

I’m on
Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.3086)
Adobe Captivate Classic 11.8.2.254
Firefox 115.0.2 (64-Bit)
Chrome 114.0.5735.199 (64-Bit)

This is the zipped project, the upload-function here didn’t even recognize it as a “valid HTML5 Zip file”:
Lektion 04 Elevator Pitch TTT

How can I present the interactive video in a standalone version?

It needs to be uploaded to a LMS, hence the error.

The reason for that error is that you did enable Reporting and created a SCO. You need to upload to a LMS to get rid of that error.

It is very rare to see answers acknowledged here, most users only post questions but never come back. That is the reason I invited you to use German. Thanks for being part of the minority who is really interested in getting an answer, not only in getting a ‘score’.

I never understood why they left Publishing to exe available, because it is using Flash technology.

The problem you encounter is due to the fact that published output to HTML is like a website, it needs to be uploaded to a webserver to watch it with full functionality. Local viewing works only when you are invited to it immediately after publishing, not later on.

BTW it is perfectly possible to ask questions in German. I do understand German very well (Ich bin Flamen), but will answer in English.

You said also that the output folder was zipped. Did you activate zipping yourself, or did you perhaps publish a course which has Reporting in Quiz Preferences turned on. In that case uploading to a webserver is not sufficient, you need to upload to a LMS.

Thanks for the swift reply. I’ll keep writing in English, just in case someone else is interested in the topic Yes, I activated zipping while publishing.

By now, I’ve done some more testing. The output must not necessarily uploaded to a server to view it locally. Once I exported to SCORM 2004 (instead of xAPI), I was able to view the interactive videos (with full functionality), once I acknowledged the Error Message attached.
